Gene Starwind is the "star" of Outlaw Star. As a child, an unknown ship attacked his father's ship in space and he was forced to take the only escape pod to saftey. His father died as a result and he lived on by himself struggling to stay alive. One way to stay alive was to become a outlaw. Hey, it sure ain't pretty, but it's a way to live. Later he met his life-long friend Jim Hawking and they started up a business called Starwind and Hawking Enterprises which was a autoshop and odd-job completer. As he does these odd things he meets some very intersting people, and Hilda is one of them that changes his life forever.
Gene's main weapon is a Caster Gun seen in the photo to the left. It is a very old weapon, pratically an antique that fires magic spells in the form of bullets that are becoming extremly rare. Because of this scarcity for shells, one with a Caster must always watch their ammo. This theme comes up many times in the course of the series. If two Casters are ever fired at each other, though, the magic will cancel each other out and it will become a race against which of the two shooters runs out of shells first.
