Welcome to DGate Fashion!! For those who have come here unwares, this is a
specialized, informative 'Custom Clothing How-To' and background on the history
of costume, for those playing the wonderful text-based fantasy roleplaying
game, Dragon's Gate. I would recommend any
who are confused to follow the link to learn more about this very excellent MUD.
(Even more confused? A MUD is short for a Multi-User Dungeon...and uh, yeah.)
I've played 'Dgate' on and off for about six years, more or less, and
although I am by no means an expert on the game, I am a devotee and find myself
coming back to it time and time again. One thing that has always captured my
attention while playing is the fashions- I've always been interested in fashion
and the history of costume, and am currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in
Art History, which will hopefully lead to a position in a few years at a most
excellent fashion magazine, say, Vogue, or Harper's Bazaar, or
Elle. As one who claims to be the devotee of a fantasy RPG, I may not
seem to be the typical fashionista, but we all have our quirks, right? Chanel,
Yves Saint Laurent, and Carolina Herrera are, however, quite separate from the
world of Aradath, whose clothing is more medieval than designer. Not that that's
a bad thing- as a part of roleplaying, I get to pretend that I am actually
wearing these fabulous silks, damasks, and velvets.
I've always enjoyed 'looking' at what other people are wearing, both in-game
and IRL, and made a habit of noting down particularly interesting outfits,
styles, and such in a Notepad file. I never really thought it would come of
anything- I simply used it when I got the chance to order custom outfits, and
maybe to drool over sometimes. ^_~ Lately, a few 'Player Resource' websites have
been turning up with glossaries and pictures of things like weapons and gems
seen in-game, and I thought how cool it would be to have one about
fashion. Well, to make a long story short (as you've probably noticed I'm prone
to blabbing....), after a lot of hemming and hawing, I decided to do it myself.
So, here we are. This is definitely going to be a long process- as of today
(1/7/04) the overall website is nearly complete (though I still have to put in pictures). This definitely went quicker than I thought! I will, however, be adding more. I hope you will enjoy this work in progress and put it to good use!
And if you'd like, sign my guest book. ^_^ I love feedback, constructive criticism, and suggestions.
