IST523 Fundamentals of Information Technology Spring 2008 |

This course will explore the theoretical and practical applications of information technology in today's rapidly changing information culture. During lectures [and interactive computer labs/take-home computer labs], students will explore a wide range of digital and Internet-based technologies, including the PC and PC applications, networking, and web page design. Tools and technology used will include PowerPoint, HTML editors, and e-mail.
This course will examine issues surrounding the emergence of digital technologies in today's information culture in order to provide a critical context for student-centered activities and projects. Attention will also be given to issues relating to the use of information technology including technology selection and evaluation and plans, information security, data accuracy and web content evaluation, and information availability and connectivity. By completing this course students should acquire a basic understanding of theoretical and practical applications of information technology.

The course will meet 14 times, on Wednesdays from 4:30PM-7:45PM, from
January through May. The majority of classes will be held at the Marlboro Free Library, except for 2 classes (Feb. 27 and April 30) which will be held at the Mid-Hudson Library System, in
Poughkeepsie.
