The Tall Ships
< ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
In August Vancouver (well, Richomond)  celebrated its first Tall Ships festival. I always enjoyed seeing these "visitors from the past" when I lived out east. So I was happy when I learned that they would be visiting here as well.
The Official Tall Ships Festival site.
The event was wildly more popular than the planners expected. For the Parade of Sail alone (where the ships enter the harbour to tie up) they expected only about 50,000 people and over 120,000 showed  up to  line the shores.

I hate lineups and crowds, especially when I'm taking pictures, so I went extra early (6AM) to get my shots. I had also hoped for a nice sunrise through the masts of the ships, but it was heavy overcast conditions so that idea didn't work out so well.

But I managed to get some nice shots from the shores and also I took a short viewing cruise to get some closeup shots. I didn't have time to hang around and get in line to get on board the ships themselves, but that didn't bother me since I've been on these sorts of ships before. (just as well ... the line to board the Europa was 4 hours long at some points!).

Once you get to know me, and we exchange real names/emails. then you can see a ton more shots from this festival on my personal web site.
