Mike D is on the mend.
The banged-up Beastie Boy, winged in a serious bicycle mishap last month, is out of the hospital after undergoing reconstructive surgery on his right shoulder.
The 33-year-old musician, whose full name is Michael Diamond, was released from Manhattan's Lenox Hill Hospital August 2, according to a statement on the band's Website, www.BeastieBoys.com.
"All present indications are that the procedure, known as an AC joint reconstruction, was a success. Mike D has now been ordered by doctors to wear a sling on the reconstructed area for four to six weeks. Prognosis is that Mike will be fully healed in approximately three months," the statement reads.
The clipped Beastie now faces a few months of rehab before he'll be in shape enough to embark on the Boys' much-anticipated trek with Rage Against the Machine.
The groups' Rhyme & Reason Tour was put on hold when Mike D got into his bike accident (his ride was apparently swallowed by a rogue pothole, resulting in a gnarly crash). Dates are expected to be rescheduled soon, and refunds for canceled shows are now available from Ticketmaster and points of purchase.
In addition to his shoulder rehab, the rocker is keeping himself occupied, according to BeastieBoys.com. "Mike tells us that he's listening to Jagjit Singh and doing well enough to dance around a little to the new BS2000...[He] recommends watching the extra-long Beatles Anthology, Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train and George Cukor's What Price Hollywood if you happen to find yourself recooperating from surgery any time soon.
"That's all in addition to last week's reading recommendations including Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, A Course in Miracles and The Path of Emancipation."
