Do not go and see this film. REPEAT. Do not go and see this film. Maybe I'm not getting a deeper meaning to this film, but it was shit. The film was disgusting, the humour was disgusting and at the same time not funny (admittedly, parts were an exception - hence the 13 points). The movie follows the path of an American who gets trapped into marrying this chick from an Australian town. The problem is, anyone who leaves gets killed. Apart from the devotion of the townsfolk to Rogers and Hammerstein, which provides us with much laughter, the film presents us with a campy charicature of out back folk. I really should've walked out of this film it was so bad, but I soldiered on thinking it may improve... by the time I realised it was not going to, I may as well have stayed till the end.

Made by the same person who did Priscilla - Queen of the Desert, this film stunk like shit. The reason Priscilla was such a hit was because it was so campy. Men in dress is so wierd, people are fascinated by it... and the audience was fooled into calling it a "good film", when in fact, apart from the visual design, it was most certainly not. However, without his cross dressers, the director just can't sustain a shonky, stupid, cliche ridden story for 1.5 hours. There is no satire in this film.. to say so is really an insult to the art form. To also say that the film is "a lot of fun" would also be wrong... who finds it a lot of fun? It was crazy, and there's the burial of the body bit at the end that is somewhat amusing because it's so ridiculous and insane, but apart from that... nope, not one iota of sense, not one iota of meaning.

The question that begs to be asked is, how did a story like this possibly get funding from the Australian Film Corporation? Why did Government money go into a film like this? Was it because he was the director of Priscilla? Probably. Hopefully it is not an indication of the quality of films to come... for after the brilliance of SHINE, can there be any hope for the Australian film industry if Government money is going into garbage like this?
