WILD THINGS SURPRISES

Wild Things is first of all an entertaining film that produces some surprisingly good performances. It has an extremely twisted plot that I really did not see coming and so was very surprised by it. But especially good is the darkly comic feel to the film. The word 'hot' can't properly describe Denise Richards in this film, and it will surprise no-one if one scene in this film becomes the best love scene in end of year movie vote ins. Neve Cambpell is also excellent in this film. Both Matt Dillon and Kevin Bacon play there roles very well. I really can't say much about this film unless it is watched. Certainly the best of the teen aimed films so far this year. Also, Bill Murray has an excellent bit part.

PART TWO: now that everyone has watched it

Watching this film a second time is like watching L.A. Confidential the second time - every look takes on a new meaning - Dillon plays the whole thing with a poker face, and seeing the story coming helps you a lot. When I first watched the film I was amazed at how the film maker shot the chicks in the opening scenes- it was like one of those cliched 80s movies - chicks with wet t shirts etc. Many were point of view shots - so the camera was giving away strong hints (not only a clever way for droolorama/comedyorama). The film does however have a few red hearrings that sort of wreck the ingenious nature of the film (unlike L.A. Confidential or even the Usual Suspects). I still think this was one of the best films of the year - very very good!
