PAYBACK IS A TOP FILM
Extremely well shot and lit - using beautiful noir shades, Mel Gibson and Brian Hegeland (excuse spelling) have delivered a noirish action film that delivers 10 out of 10 on meanness. And it is when Gibson is being cruel that he is at his funniest. In fact, this movie is so cruel that its anti-hero is from the beginning a hero - inspite of his seemingly devoid morality (though later on they do try to make him look better). In a way, he is the good guy amongst a whole lot of worse guys. I'll say more later when my hand recovers from this immense pain, but notable performance by this asian chick as a dominatrix (i think that's what you call them) prostitute type - extremely funny. This film is subversive in that it twists around the action genre - it's a breath of fresh air - where badd is good (although the big hit was also like that, except not as overt)
