BULWORTH ANOTHER HIGH QUALITY SATIRE

Though for me it wasn't as funny as Wag The Dog, the message from Bulworth is far stronger and much more controversial. Democracy is being run by financially huge interest groups and it has a corrupting effect on the government's ability to stay in touch with the "ordinary person". Is it any wonder that "The Body" ventura won the governor's race for Minessota? People are screaming out for leaders who will spare the bullshit. Beatty here constructs an amazingly well thought out and clever script that does (just like Wag the Dog) have its implausabilities - but if anything is implausible, it is American politics - and anything can happen.

Bulworth also looks the race issue of America straight in the face - it has not been overcome and there is a substantial barrier to relations between whites and blacks. Furthermore, the popular arguments against "affirmative action" towards poorer people are also challenged thoughtfully and effectively. In the end, Beatty's success may come from your view point. If you happen to have a closed mind, then nothing can make you see this unique point of view - but come to this movie with an open mind and you will be challenging yourself and will actually think about some issues. I've noticed the critics who call Spielberg a high school "lecturer" have failed to say the same about this film (margaret pomeranz and david stratton gave it five stars - it's no five star film though). Of course, they are blinded by their left-wing liberal persuasions even though the entire film is basically a lecture. But I don't see nothing wrong with it - it was the film-maker's intention and it succeeded very well.
