For Weekend 14-16 October: Box Office Reports: Box Office Guru: Est.
PRACTICAL MAGIC TOPS US BOX OFFICE
Practical Magic, starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock topped the US box office with 13 million dollars in ticket sales despite negative reviews (according to bo guru). Meanwhile, The "Bride of Chucky" has opened with 11.6 million; the highest October opening for a horror film since the 15.6 million "I know what you did last summer" earned. In what is undoubtedly great news for Dreamworks, ANTZ, its first animated film (and only the second fully computer animated feature in history), has dropped only 23% from last weekend to 11.3 million and a total of 51 million. If the film drops at this rate for the next few weeks, the film should be able to make over 80 million dollars in the domestic market. With the merchandising potential, plus the overseas box office, the film should give a handy profit to Dreamworks, who have only recently just started to have some hits (Deep Impact, Saving Private Ryan). Meanwhile Saving Private Ryan is on 187.5 million. If it stays in cinemas long enough to pick up business following its probable high profile in awards season (December-March 1999), the film will cross the 200 million mark.
