THE MATRIX AD STUNS!
Matrix could well be the next Terminator 2. The ad I saw before disturbing behaviour was nothing short of phenominal. The special effects footage was the most advanced I have ever seen (apart from the Star Wars trailer, which was supposed to have followed the matrix trailer). It is just amazing that we are going to have such a huge step forward in special effects, and with both films I think it's not just the special effects. It will be storyline. The Matrix to me seems also a bit like those time travel movies (where am I? am I in reality? Is it all a dream?) - with elements of time coming to the fore of the movie (rather than just the action dictating over time) - this may leave audiences confused, but the success of 12 Monkeys shows that this is not necessarily a bad thing. The Matrix shockwave website is also awesome - I spent five minutes just playing with the various sounds on the index page (as you go over each window, there is a different sound - it's like making up your own mix!). The matrix opens on April 8, and if it's bad, then I'll yet again be a fool at predictions (see next item).

BOB-SLIDE
I was really expecting this headline on the tele, but instead we had the Sun Herald with the clever "Carr-nage". In a remarkable result that saw Ron Phillips lose his blue ribbon seat, and Michael Photios thumped, the people of NSW spoke: they hated these two for picking Chickas, they hated the idea of privatisation, and they showed themselves to be sane people. The very fact that no-one felt sorry for the liberals proved that they were disgraceful in every step of their campaign. I thought Chickas had a real good chance at winning when she deposed Collins, but within the first month, I felt like my predictions about a Coalition win were wrong. The contempt the major parties still show for the electorate is evident. The liberals are adament that privatisation is a MUST. Why? Why does every responsible business in this country have a MANAGEABLE debt to pay for the expansion of their business in the future? Why is state debt so bad? In fact, state debt will be retired by 2020 anyway. So, all this talk about Privatisation being a "must" is a big big lie. It is a "must" for the lawyers who will get a slice of the cake from the proceeds of the sale and for the firms that will manage such a large sale. It is a "must" for greedy private sector interests who will run the utility for "profits" over the interests of the community. And if it is sold, you can be guaranteed it will be sold UNDER its real value. The Commonwealth Bank was sold and now its shares are at least three times higher. Telstra was sold just a few years ago, and the share is almost doubled. The government has lost billions of dollars in revenue alone by giving away their assets dirt cheap. This is what I call CORPORATE WELFARE - what the government gives to rich people and corporations. And it is unfortunately both a Liberal and a Labor agenda. The over 65% of the population against the sell-off of electricity are not only smart, they are CORRECT. It is those with vested interests in selling the power industry who are calling ordinary voters idiots. Unfortunately, these people have their hands in the power base of both Labor and Liberal parties. It is the high end business community that supported Chickas - goes to show how smart they are.

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN SNUBBED IN OSCAR RORT! In a decision as bad as awarding "GHANDI" over "ET", Steven Spielberg's war masterpiece, winner of countless critics awards and an international hit was the big winner after MIRAMAX spent 15 MILLION dollars US promoting the film. Not only that, but Miramax spread a whispering campaign that has spread across the industry: "saving private ryan's first 25 mins are great, but the rest is pretty standard". The oscars have shown that the process is disgustingly similar to that of the IOC and the Olympic Games. Dinners and Schmoozing won it for Miramax in a most disgusting way. SPR wasn't the only victim. Cate Blanchett was robbed of her best actress award by a visibly shocked Paltrow. Paltrow shouldn't have been shocked. With 15 million dollars behind your film, ofcourse you're going to win. Oscar's reputation as far as I'm concerned is ruined by this shameful exercise. It cannot be redeemed unless something drastic is done. Spielberg has yet again been rorted by the system. I know Best Director for Spielberg may be some consolation, but it hasn't spoiled the fact that in twenty years of film making, it has to be beyond a perfect film for any Spielberg picture to win best film. What a disappointment. |
