Movie Synopsis: Friday the 13th: A New Beginning By Derek Floyd on December 13, 2002 The fifth installment of the Friday the 13th series opens with a little boy tramping through a rainstorm, and he finds the grave of Jason Voorhees. Two other people are also after the grave, and they open it while the boy hides. The men crack open the coffin, and Jason is still alive. He stabs one in the gut with a machete and sticks an icepick in the other's neck. He gets out, takes his machete, and starts toward the little boy's hiding place. He slashes downward... And he wakes up. It was just a dream. The little boy is a young man, being taken to a mental hospital. The pre-credit sequence ends, and the movie begins in earnest. Fade to Pinehurst Youth Development Centre. The man is Tommy Jarvis, the boy who killed Jason in the last movie. A blonde, Pam, comes out of the building, and Tommy goes inside with her. She takes him to Leonard, the head of Pinehurst, who tells him about the place, and then Tommy goes to get settled in. He hides a folding knife under his mattress, and then Reggie "the Reckless" makes his appearance; his grandfather works at the institute, and he's fascinated with the masks that Tommy brought, but he gets defensive of them. A sheriff and his deputy arrive at the establishment with two stray "inmates," Tina and Eddie, and the woman whose property they were fooling around on soon follows and demands the institute be closed. We get to see Joey, the dumb chocoholic, trying to help the girls with their laundry and he ends up staining it with his chocolate. He goes over to the angry Vick, who's chopping wood with a lot of rage, and annoys Vick enough that he hacks him to death. The first "real" death in the movie isn't Jason's work. After the EMT's take Joey's corpse away, the scene cuts to two leather-clad guys with a broken-down car. One of them tries to fix it, but the other, Vinny, leaves for help from civilization, leaving his buddy alone and slaughter fodder. Tension builds as he walks through the brush and he hears cracking twigs. He turns, and finds a rabbit. His buddy lights a road flare, but somebody grabs it from his hands and shoves it down his throat. The other guy returns to the car, thinks Vinny is still working under the hood, and when the engine turns over, a hand grabs him from the back seat and a machete slits his throat. Nightmares plague Tommy back at Pinehurst. It's so bad, he sees Jason in the mirror, but nobody else is in the room. At breakfast, Violet (a blonde with headphones wired into her ears) sets places for the permanently absent Vick and Joey, and Eddie doesn't show. Eddie jumps in wearing one of Tommy's masks, and Tommy throws him across the room for it. The old woman chops up a chicken in the meantime, while her dumb son eats across the room. Vick has escaped prison and shows up at her house, offering to work for food. A dweeby guy shows up at a diner and calls for Lana, the waitress. She tells him she has some work to do before she rides with him. The guy (Billy) snorts some cocaine while she spiffs up. She hears a noise and goes out. A cat jumps out and scares her. Billy grows impatient, sticks his head out the door and calls for her, and gets axed in the back of the head. Lana gets into the car, even though Billy isn't there, talks to herself for a bit, samples his drugs, and then gets axed in the gut. Tommy watches some chickens from his window, and then hallucinates that Jason is standing over there; the last movie really screwed him up. The mayor rips into the sheriff about the murders, and Sheriff Tucker replies that he knows it's Jason Voorhees. The mayor rebukes with claims that Jason's dead. The kids who got promiscuous earlier get rowdy and stray from the institute's grounds; they take a large sheet with them. A first-person perspective from afar watches them while they smoke marijuana; it's Vick, who watches while they go at it, and then he suddenly gets stabbed in the gut. Eddie leaves for a moment, Tina lies down, and closes her eyes. Big mistake; when she opens them again... *shok*shok* with pruning shears. Eddie comes back, finds her with her eyes gouged out, and gets strapped to a tree. Jason twists the strap until it crushes his skull. Leonard and Pam are concerned that Eddie and Tina haven't returned, and she takes Tommy and Reggie out in a pickup. They go to a trailer park, where Reggie talks to a Michael-Jackson-meets-Prince looking guy (his brother) and his girlfriend Nina. Tommy wigs out while staring at the park sign, and the old woman's son rides up on his moped. Tommy punches him down, but Pam stops him before he delivers a death blow. After they leave, "Prince Michael" runs to the outhouse (those lousy enchiladas!). Nina shakes the outhouse and freaks him out. They banter for a bit, and then the outhouse shakes again. He goes out, but Nina's corpse is blocking the door. Somebody thrusts a spike through the walls, gets him the knee and then through the gut. The moped kid, Junior, rides home and whines that Tommy hurt him. He screams for a while, and then *WHACK* with a cleaver and his head falls off. His mom doesn't know what happened, but the cleaver comes through the window and splits her skull in half, and she falls into the stew. Pam's truck dies on the dark road, she gets angry, and then gets out and walks back. Jake, the stuttering kid, and the last girl are watching an old horror movie. He tries to talk to her, but she's engrossed in the movie. He comes on to her, but it doesn't work; she laughs, and then he breaks down and and goes upstairs, where Violet is engrossed in her music. He leaves and gets cleaved. The TV movie ends, and the girl heads to bed, trying to wake Reggie from the couch without success. She goes upstairs and gets ready for bed. She crawls into the top bunk and tries to sleep despite the lightning. She rolls over and sees Jack's corpse, screams, and a hand clamps her down while another rams a knife through the bunk and through her body. Violet doesn't hear the killer enter her room (she never hears anything over the noise), but he hides when she turns around. She dances to her music, and doesn't turn around until it's too late. Stab. Reggie awakes to an empty room, and goes upstairs (bad move, Reg). He goes into Tommy's room, where the girls' corpses are on display. Pam grabs him and he freaks out. She goes in, screams, and they run downstairs. Jason busts the door down and they scream and run out the back and keep running. They find an ambulance out there, but the guy is dead, and Jason appears. They run the other way, and Jason gives chase at a leisurely walk. Pam and Reggie trip and get split up. Pam finds Leonard impaled to a tree through the skull, and runs back inside. Reggie's grandfather is thrown through the window, eyes gouged out. She runs back out, trips, and Jason raises his machete, but Reggie rams him with a bulldozer he breaks out of the shed. Jason looks dead, so they get close to him. He grabs Reggie's leg, but he kicks him off and runs. Jason gets up and examines the shed. Reggie and Pam are hiding, and she jumps at him with a chainsaw. She chops up his shoulder, but the saw cuts out, and he gets up while she's trying to get it running. She throws it at him and runs. Reggie calls "Tommy!" and Jason turns to face the boy who killed him. They stare down and Jason slashes his chest. he falls, and before Jason can deliver the killing blow, he pulls his knife and cuts his leg. Tommy climbs the hay loft while Jason gets up and slowly follows him. Jason thinks Tommy is dead, so he leaves him, and finds Reggie. Pam whacks Jason, and manages to knock him off the loft and onto a bed of spikes... or so she thinks. Jason grabs Reggie's leg and a tug-of-war between Jason and Pam erupts. Tommy wakes up and chops Jason's hand off with his own machete. Jason falls onto the spikes, and his mask falls off; it wasn't Jason, but some other guy wearing a bald cap and hockey mask. at the hospital, the sheriff tells Pam that the killer was Roy, an EMT and Joey's father, who lost his mind when he saw his son hacked up at Pinehurst. She goes to check on Tommy, and when he wakes up, he plunges a machete into her. He laughs, and then he wakes up. He sees Jason, the real deal, and they stare each other down. Another hallucination. Tommy gets up and takes Jason's mask out of a drawer. Pam goes to his room and hears a crash before she enters. She sees the window broken, and the door closes behind her. Tommy is behind her, wearing the mask and brandishing a large knife. Fin.
