His face is devoid of emotion, and he rarely speaks, except in whispers. His actions, too, seem mechanical; he just goes through the motions, without feeling. He is fixated on eyes; he removes these "windows to the soul" from each of his victims. He coaxes as much fear from his victims as he can before he kills them and extracts their eyes. What he uses them for is a mystery. Background The Reaper is the shadow of Eric Bloom, the only child of Buck and Dharma Bloom, who died in a fire of unknown origin that almost killed Eric as well. Eric's aunt, Helen Wiels, raised him afterward. Eric somehow found out that mischevious fey set his home on fire as a practical joke. He wanted to destroy them, but they got him first. They sneaked into Helen's kitchen and switched Eric's meal with some fey food, and when he went to sleep that night, they lit a magic candle, sprinkled him with dust, cut off his shadow, and ran back to the Shadow Rift with it. Eric awakened as a shadowless automaton, while a shadow-formed creature exited the Shadow Rift, given instructions to collect eyes. Not even this creature, dubbed "The Reaper" by those who have witnessed it (and survived), knows the motive behind its gruesome task.
