Camp Pegasus

Sorry, your browser doesn't support Java.

Camp Pegasus is a six-week semi-wilderness camp for at-risk teenagers that was created by Patricia Callair, a family theapist in Raleigh, North Carolina. We would like to use her model and the name for our camp. What follows is my recollection of her project.

"Send a kid to camp" newspaper drives are used to fund scholarships to the camp. To attend the camp, a parent or guardian must agree to attend two week-ends. Local Senior Citizen groups and local business leaders are approached with the message: "If you are tired of the gangs and the violence and the crime, donate your time. Come to the camp."

Along with typical wilderness camp activities, Pat does Community-Building with the kids, the parents, the senior citizens, and the business leaders. We would use the Network in the Schools model for the Community-Building component.
