PLAYER AWARDS 2000

    The 10th Annual DFC Softball Team Awards were presented to the BOYS OF SUMMER at the October 18th Fan Club General Meeting.  Each year since 1991, a Softball Trophy has been awarded to that player deemed to have been the MOST VALUABLE to the Team.  The MOST IMPROVED PLAYER award, which was also established in 1991, was renamed THE 12TH PLAYER AWARD in 1998 and is awarded to that player deemed to have been the Unsung Player.  A third trophy, the PLAYERS' PLAYER AWARD, has been given annually since 1993.  The MOST VALUABLE PLAYER is selected by the Team Manager and Coaching Staff while the PLAYERS' PLAYER AWARD is voted by the Softball Team players only.  The 12th PLAYER AWARD, is voted upon by the Team Manager, Coaching Staff, and the Softball Team Players.

     DAVE NATHANSON was the recipient of the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AWARD trophy while TOM WAGGNER was awarded the PLAYERS' PLAYER AWARD trophy for the 2nd consecutive year and is only the second player to win back to back trophies (Rick Weiman won the PPA in 1997 and 1998).  Both Dave and Tom are second year players who, like all the other new players, have brought a new attitude to the team!  The 12TH PLAYER AWARD went to RICH LOFTUS!  Rich is a veteran player who has been with the team since the 1995 season and was a former recipient of this award in 1996 (when it was the MOST IMPROVED PLAYER AWARD).  Tom Waggner was runner up in the MVP voting while Dave Nathanson was runner up for the PPA.  Tony Simonelli finished a close second in the voting for the 12th Player Award.  Award presenters were Ron Kazanchy, Bill Simmons and Bob Williams, Sr.
