CITATION TO ACCOMPANY THE AWARD OF
THE DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS
TO
EDWARD J. MALONEY JR

First Lieutenant Edward J. Maloney, Jr. distinguished himself by extra-ordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an EC-47 Pilot in the Republic of Vietnam on 24 April 1972. On that date, Lieutenant Maloney flew an extremely hazardous mission through adverse weather conditions and the constant threat of hostile ground
fire and attack. In spite of this, he superbly accomplished this in-
tricate and hazardous mission in support of Free World Forces combatting aggression. Through his personal bravery and energetic application of his knowledge and skill, he significantly furthered the goal
of the United States in Southeast Asia. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Maloney
reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
