| March 28 The Three Colors Trilogy March isnt even over yet and already I know what one of the years best DVDs is going to be. Late master Krysztof Kieslowskis final work proved to be a heavily ambitious endeavor that examined the modern virtues plaguing the world, with themes ranging from liberty, equality, and fraternity all symbolically represented by one of the three French flag colors, BLUE, WHITE and RED or THE THREE COLORS TRILOGY. BLUE is the most somber of the three, it deals with a womans loss of her family, and how she copes with the process. White is the most satirical of the three, it is the story of a polish immigrants obsession with his soon to be ex-wife. Red is widely considered to be the best, its a dazzling, and beautiful mystery, that works fine by itself, but brings the trilogy to a fantastic close. The Trilogy as a whole is fantastic, each is a great film, and they all work on their own, but they form a tight, masterful union in the company of each other. The late master Kieslowski retired after this ambitious project and past away some years later. But his work still remains as brilliant as it ever was, seeing THREE COLORS once again reinforces that. Each movie stars a leading actress of extreme talent and beauty, each of them (Juliette Binoche, Julie Delpy, & Irne Jacob) give fantastic performances, but never outshine Kieslowski work of how are lives are at the mercy of irony and fate. The box set contains all three movies, individually, with each containing their own special features, and there are tons of them. All three contain an audio commentary with film scholar Annette Insdorf, commentary from the films leading lady, a three-part discussion on director Krzysztof Kieslowski's films, a three-part examination of the "Three Colors" trilogy, and many, many more. Of all the features my favorite is the brilliant widescreen transfer, the picture is beautiful, and fits with the landscape and ambition of these films. To the people who have never heard of this amazing trilogy, go out and rent all three parts in order, I guarantee youll be running out to pick up this box-set half-way into WHITE. These are brilliant films that need to be seen.
