NIRVA GOES TO PHILIPPINES......

nirv

Nirvana popularized Seattle’s “grunge” music scene and sparked a revival among the smaller, independent-label record companies in the music industry. Nirvana’s album Nevermind (1991) expressed an antiestablishment attitude that resonated with so-called Generation X and paved the way for other alternative rock bands. The group broke up after front man Kurt Cobain’s suicide in 1994. Nirvana was comprised of, left to right, Cobain, Dave Grohl, and Krist Novoselic.

MICHAEL JACKSON

American singer, dancer, and songwriter Michael Jackson performs during a 1993 concert tour in Asia. Jackson began his career as a child performing with his brothers in the group known as the Jackson 5, and achieved worldwide fame as a solo performer, largely due to his unique style of singing and dancing. Jackson’s greatest musical success, the 1982 album Thriller, won an unprecedented eight Grammy Awards, produced a record-breaking seven Top Ten hits, and became the best-selling album in history up to that time. Because of Jackson’s eccentric and reclusive lifestyle, he has been a frequent target of the media spotlight.

All of these types of music share their roots in mento, the traditional folk music of Jamaica, and are imbued with elements of American rhythm and blues. Marley is heard here early in his career performing in the rock steady style with his vocal group, then known as the Wailing Wailers
