In the early 1980's, I was restoring a 1968 SS Camaro.  This car had been severely abused by the previous owner; beaten to a pulp is actually more accurate.  The engine was gone, the 4 speed transmission was laying in parts on the back seat.  The New England winters and the years of abuse had taken its toll on the paint, floors and body.  I heard about the car from the mother of the owner.  She was fed up with it sitting in her yard.  The junk man was coming on Wednesday for it, I grabbed a wrecker from work on Tuesday.

Truthfully, the car should have been a parts car.  But I just couldn't rip it apart for parts.  Instead, I ended up getting a used motor (400 ci out of a 1972 chevy station wagon), a junkyard transmission and various new and used parts.  I chopped off the rotted parts and rebuilt them w/ new metal.  It turned out pretty good for a true low-buck effort.  The car would never be a show winner, but it was reliable and ran pretty strong for a mildly warmed over motor.

I did all the work myself.  It was fun, therapeudic and yeah... frustrating, too.  Through all of this, my 2 year old son Dave watched carefully.  The Camaro was up on blocks.  His indy car pedal car had a log he put beneath it to prop it up.  It was so cute; we'd work side by side.

One day, I went into the house for something.  When I came back outdoors, there was Dave... 2 legs hanging out from under his pedal car... I could hear him talking to himself.
"Son-of-a-bitching, God damn car!".  Of course, I laughed like a fool and realized I'd better be more careful with my language.
