Soul Sleep Hi I was told by a friend that their Baptist pastor said that when christians die They dont go to heaven they stay in the grave until the day Jesus comes back. Is this true, I find it hard to believe. Thanks Eric PS also I changed to a baptist church from a pentacostal one im not sure this is a good move or not ________________________________________________________________ My reply: I prefer FreeWill Baptist, English Baptist, and Anabaptist teachings to the usual OSAS doctrines taught by most Baptists. But, we've all been up and down that road many times. What you are referring to is soul sleep. Find out about this weird doctrine on the links below: http://www.letusreason.org/7thAd22.htm http://www.letusreason.org/Doct15.htm Soul Sleep: (Psychopannychy) The doctrine that human souls sleep or cease conscious existence between death and resurrection. Usually (but not always) a doctrine associated with Adventism. - Watchman Fellowship's 2001 Index of Cults and Religions Soul Sleep - The teaching that when a person dies his soul ceases to exist. On the final judgment day he is brought back to life and judged. This is not a heresy, only an error of interpretation. The Bible is not specific on the condition of the person between death and resurrection. However, there are scriptures that strongly suggest man's continued self-awareness and continued existence after death (Luke 16:19-31; 2 Cor. 5:1-10; Phil. 1:21-23). - Carm.org Soul Sleep is taught by Seven Day Adventists, Worldwide Church of God, Branch Davidians, and Jehovah's Witnesses. This weird teaching has creeped into some Christian churches too. Jeremy Brown 2005 BACK |
