Jeremy Brown's Bible Commentary - Under Construction

Preface

Many people have written Bible commentaries from Catholic, Baptist , Methodist, Presbyterian, Anglican, Lutheran, Arminian, Calvinist, and other movements. It is my wish that this Bible commentary will bring the actual meanings of every facet of the scripture to every reader from the earliest Jewish and Christian perspectives. This would be called Paleo-Orthodoxy, which is a movement that seeks to restore the earliest interpretations to the mainstream.

When Martin Luther, the founder of Lutheranism, was brought on trial before the Catholic Church at the Diet of Worms in 1521, he said, "Since your most serene majesty and the princes require a simple answer, I will give it thus:  Unless I should be convinced by the proofs from the Scripture or by evident reason (for I believe neither in popes or councils since they have frequently erred and contradicted themselves), I cannot choose but to adhere to the word of God, which has possession of my conscience. Nor can I possibly nor will I ever make any recantation, since it is neither safe nor honest to act contrary to conscience. Here I take my stand; I cannot do otherwise. God be my help! Amen." With such statements and in his Table Talk book's chapter on God's Word, Luther promoted the idea that scripture alone is the final earthly authority on all matters of doctrine and life that it addresses. The early church fathers also expressed the same idea. The Evangelical Movement reflects the same stance. And, Fundamentalism in its original form was built on the idea that scripture is the final undefiled earthly authority on all matters of doctrine and life that it addresses. In my research I have found and in your research you will find that this stance is the essence of Paleo-Orthodoxic Judaism and Paleo-Orthodoxic Christianity.
