December 11, 2001: Free Dance; Annual Christmas Party. Members were requested to bring refreshments and food totaling $5.00/person for the local "Food Pantry".
March 1, 2 & 3, 2002: East Hill Farm Weekend with Joe Casey.
April 25, 26 & 27, 2002: 44th New England Square & Round Dance Convention, Sturbridge Village, Massachusetts.
June 11, 2002: Club birthday party and class graduation. Rosemarie Marshall was the only graduate this year.
June 18, 2002: First summer dance at Marshwood Junior High School.
September 22, 2002: Annual club picnic at the Eliot Boat Basin, rain or shine. We had a great turnout again this year. The weather cooperated and everyone had a good time eating, playing games, and socializing.
October 29, 2002: This was our Halloween fun night. Members came in "Wacky Outfits", and other weird dress. Prizes were awarded during the evening for the most colorful costume or weird dress. First prize of $25.00 was awarded to Rosalie Pszenny. She was dressed as a frog and came hopping in!! Paul and Carol Ersing came dressed as Raggedy Ann and Andy. Paul was awarded second prize of $15.00 for his likeness of Andy and Carol was awarded third prize of $10.00 for her likeness of Raggedy Ann. Judging was really difficult as all costumes were just great.
November 5, 12 & 19, 2002: Prizes for the 50/50 Pot of Gold/Split the Pot were turkeys instead of money. Turkey winners were Lew Nau, Bill Morrow and Chuck Moran.
December 5, 2002: We are saddened by the loss of lifetime member Roger Fletcher. Roger was a popular member and will be missed. Roger's obituary was published in the Foster's Daily Democrat and appears below. KITTERY, Maine � Roger W. Fletcher, 85, of Manson Road, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, in York Harbor. Born on May 16, 1917, in Lancaster, he was the son of George W. and Mary (Freeman) Fletcher. He graduated from Ashland High School in Ashland in 1935. Mr. Fletcher served his country as a member of the U.S. Army in World War II. He was injured at the Battle of the Bulge, earning the Bronze Star and Purple Heart in recognition for his sacrifice. He was a former Little League and American Legion baseball coach. Mr. Fletcher was also a lifetime member of the Downeast Western Square Dance club, and former member of the Cocheco and Sunnydale Country clubs. He enjoyed square dancing, card games, crossword puzzles and sports. He graduated with the first class from the New Hampshire Technical College, where he studied to be an electrician and was a production supervisor, retiring in 1976. Mr. Fletcher is survived be his wife of 63 years, Alice M. (Adair) Fletcher; one daughter, Gail P. Contant of Exeter; one grandson, Shawn M. Fletcher of Rochester; one great-grandson, Kyle L. Fletcher of Dover; one sister, Virginia Fletcher of Ward Hill, Mass.; and a daughter-in-law, Mary F. Lindahl. He was predeceased by a son, Gary Fletcher.
December 10, 2002: Free Dance; Our annual Christmas Party will be held on this date and members will be requested to bring in non-perishable food items for "Footprints", the local "Food Pantry for the needy". Members will be requested to bring in food totaling $5.00 per person in lieu of exchange of Christmas presents.
December 24 & 31, 2002: No workshop.
