| Project64k Support Page by Jimbot Go Edit>Find on this page to find something specific. If this page doesn't help you, AIM DewJimbot Downloading and Installing To download PJ64k, just click 'PJ64k' on the nav bar. Then, install it to a folder named Emulator or something. Don't put anything in Program files Then download a game, (ex: SSB). Put the game into your folder, where all of the .RDB's and .CHT's are. Then, open the .EXE named Project64k. Go File>Netplay. Type in a name, then go to server list. Before you try netplay, play by yourself first offline too make sure it works. Starting for Rookies Hosting a game: Go into a server, press Create a game, then wait for other people to join. Ask, "Start?", and if yes, press Start game. Joining an existing game: Go into a server, then select a game that says, Waiting. Answer any questions, they may ask, then wait for them to press Start game. Honor Code: The Honor Code is an integral part of playing Super Smash Brothers. You can know how to play, sure, but are you honorable? Go here to find out: Honor Code You can have more then two people playing a game. It is, in fact, unlimited to how many people can be in the game. Of course, anybody over the number that the game is supossed to hold is just going to watch, but what can ya do? Common Problems -Dissappearing glove - Yes, the glove disappears in PJ64k on some computers. It's all graphics problems. The quality of the graphics depends mostly on your graphics card (IE the hand, I have it, some people don't), but some issues (Shields, Items, black box when offscreen) deal directly with the emulator. In the case of SSB: GFX: (Depends on the quality of your graphics card) -Hand in char select -Character color mismatches -Menu color mismatches Emu: (no matter what GFX card you have this won't be fixed) -Shields -Items -Black box when offscreen -Not being able to join a game - You must have the same ROM and Emu to play with someone. -Slow Gameplay - The standard FPS is 60. You should have a constant 60 FPS to be considered of great speed. The speed of the game is only as fast as the slowest person, so if someone can only run the game at 45, then everyone runs at 45. Ping, however, only affects you, it determines how long it takes for you to press a button. Anything below 100 is good -Games that don't start - If the game says, after someone presses Start game, "Failed to Open (game name).zip": Four steps, IN THIS ORDER: 1. Someone pressed Start game and an error came up. 2. You clear the error (Press OK). 3. You open the game manually (File>Open ROM) 4. You begin play (automatic). To fix this, after your done playing, or before you even start (don't do this midgame), you need to close all your kaillera windows, then go to File > Choose Rom Directory. Find the folder that your roms are in, then press OK. Now it should be fixed. This also fixes the Create Game function in a kaillera server room. -Games that don't start Part 2 - If the emulator says, in an error message, the the Gfx dll could not be found, or something to that effect, it means that the Graphics Plugin for the emulator is not where the emu thinks it is. So, you have to find it. In the emu, go Options>Settings, the to Directories. Once you get to directories then you find plugins. Next to the current directory in the white box to the right side is a small box with (...) on it. Click it, and go thru your computer to find the plugin you want, which is Jabo Direct3D7.dll Desynchronization However you spell it, it happens. It is when the game takes two different paths down the same road, and although one computer is getting input from the other computer, the first computer has the person in the wrong spot in the game, so it messes things up. This is caused mostly by people not having cheats on, then people utilizing those cheats. Also, if you pick a stage like Random, where the computer chooses a stage randomly, that will thro it off, same thing with a computer player, the randomness of it throws it off. Also, it happens randomly sometimes when there is a lot going on. It also happens when people have Good connections and Excellent connections, or effectively different connection types. Lag and Delay There is a lot of confusion about lag and delay in the emulation world today. I hope to clear it up. Lag-When the game actually 'studders'. FPS, the thing on the bottom right hand corner, is below 50 and the game is slow and choppy. This is caused by bad computers, nothing else. This choppiness is not caused by ping!!! To fix lag: Have everyone in your party turn off all programs other than pj64k, esp. AIM and Kazaa. If this does not work, have everyone set Priority to High through Task Manager. To do this for Windows XP: Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to open Task Manager, then go to Processes. Right-click Project64k, then set priority to High. This SHOULD not interfere with your computer, only making all other programs than pj64k really slow. But, if it freezes, you might have to restart. You have to redo this every time you open PJ64k. Delay - When you press a button, then a noticable amount of time passes, and the computer does the action. Very frustrating, but is only caused by ping, nothing else. Ping is how long the computer takes to 'press' a button. For example, 135 ms, as in 135 milli-seconds. To help ping: close all Internet-related programs, such as Kazaa and AIM, and close Internet Explorer, too. Also, simply move to a different server that is better for you. You can sort by ping on the server list. Lower ping is better. Finding ROMs Go to Yahoo. Click Advanced Search. In "include this exact phrase:" Type the exact name of the rom (Super Smash Bros. (U) [!], for example). In "exclude these words:" Type "vote cheat cheats cd mame playable compatibility illegal" (no quotation marks tho). This will give a general search, with the exact game name, without voting sites, or cheat sites, or have cd-roms, or mames(arcade roms) or playable or compatibility LISTS, not roms downloads. This is guarunteed to get you the rom you need 90% of the time. Ex: I can't find Snowboard Kids 2, but found all the others this way. Also, when you click on a rom site, a lot of the times its not the exact site, but if you look on a nav bar you will see the roms section, so explore each site thoughourly. Also, a lot of quality rom sites are in different languages (apparently they stay up longer if hosted in other counties) I get almost all of my n64 roms from a buncha spanish sites. Learn Spanish, it comes in handy! To Translate text: go to http://world.altavista.com/tr Well, that's about it. Have fun! Emulator Advances About Emulator Versions: Sometimes people ask me which version of PJ64 to get, or where to get it, or whatever. These people need to understand one thing: Well, PJ64 1.5.1 is the best version. It is the most advanced, more compatible, etc. One thing it doesn't have, however, is the netplay function. Netplay is the ability to play other people online. PJ64k is PJ64 1.4 with netplay (following all this?). Jabo, the developer, created, after many releases, PJ64 1.5.1. He kept the source code to himself, and just released the program. However, upon releaseal of 1.5 (and the subsequent service pak (the extra .1 at the end)), he decided to release the source code for PJ64 1.4. hotquik, a developer, got this source code and modified it to include netplay. (still following?). He started out with PJ64k .10, and has then since released upgrades, up to 0.13. OH yeah, and Nemu's no good at netplay. So: PJ64 1.5 (with SP1, effectively 1.5.1) - The most advanced PJ64 PJ64k 0.13 (using PJ64 1.4, effectively PJ64 1.4 netplay version 0.13)- Not as advanced as 1.5.1, but has netplay. Nemu - sucks for netplay I'd also like to note that PJ64k is being worked on and improved, while PJ64 is not. As far as which version you should be using, if you want better quality gameplay, better graphics, and more compatibility to roms (games), you want 1.5.1. If you want to fight people online, then get 0.13. Needless to say, everyone has both, one to play when they want to play by themselves, and one to play others with. PJ64k 0.13 - Specific Help answers any questions you may have and ever have about it. If it doesn't, ask me by AIM at DewJimbot?, or just add it to the site at the bottom if you find some insight that has eluded me. If you need any help on 1.5.1, you post in EmuTalk's forum. Lastly, Have fun! =D To download PJ64 and the Service Pack: Go here: PJ64 Download Site To download PJ64k: Go here: Download PJ64k PJ64k 0.13 - Specific Help Cheats To have cheats in your pj64k games, simply ask the host to put on some select cheats. The host controls all the cheats in PJ64k 0.13. If you are the host, you need to open the cheats before the game starts so that when you go thru the menu options, the cheats are on. To open cheats, go Options>GameShark? Codes(Cheats) after you start a game. Cheats are very hard to control in this version. The host needs to toggle the cheats on and off before you ever get to the character select screen to avoid desync. This is optional, I guess, if you can do it without a hitch. But if it comes out that you can't seem to get everyone with all char, then try this. You just need to go to the VS Mode screen to do it. Recommeded Cheats Super Smash Bros. -All Characters, Mushroom Kingdom (includes Item switch) -If you want to have fun, decide who will be which secret characters, selectable in VS Mode Cheats. You can be Metal Mario, Gaint DK, and almost all the polygons! Careful, tho, it crashes after the game after the match. You need to restart the emu after each match. Chatting To chat, simply press Ctrl + M, then type your message. When you are done, press Enter. Very handy when using the keyboard, I haven't quite gotton used to it yet with a controller. Different Plugins To use different plugins than the default with PJ64k 0.13, you need to select your plugins under Options>Settings BEFORE you go File>Netplay to begin Netplay. You can configure your plugins at any time before you begin a game. Even with N-Rage's plugin's the Memory Pak, Rumble Pak, and Transfer Pak do not work. I have found, in my own personal experience, that N-Rage's doesn't work. But thats just me. Keyboard Shortcuts Reset (F1) and Pause (F2) do not work. Snapshots (F3) do work. FPS Limiter (F4) does not work. Save States (F5-F7) dont work. Full screen (Alt + Enter) works, but escape doesn't. Need to press Alt and Enter again for it to escape. Be careful, however. Chance of desyncing is greatly improved. General Notes -This version of PJ64k, version 0.13, is not compatible with 0.12. -The emulator doesn't crash when the host presses the "Cancel" button, or a player presses the "Leave" button on the kaillera window, but if you actually press 'X' on the kaillera windows, not the game window, it crashes. |
