live film projection performance

SYNOPSIS:
Letters are printed onto raw film, and their shapes make sounds as they passed the projectors optical sound heads. Letters "O" and "E" are initially printed on transparency papers, which is later brought into a dark room. Strips of unexposed film are laid under the transparency and exposed to light, thus optically printed the letters onto the film.

SCREENINGS:
Vowels was first performed in Bonnington café London with sound artist of Resonance FM Sarah Washington. It was later expanded and developed with UK filmmaker Guy Sherwin to Vowels and Consonants, accompanied sound artists Sarah Washington and Knut Aufermann. This was performed at Bullion Theatre as part of the Spice Festival. The original Vowels was later performed again in September in Singapore with local sound artist George Chua.
Vowels and Consonants have further showings in 2005 at La Rencontre des Labos CinemaNova Brussels (Dec), 2006; Kino.Lab Center of Contemporary Lab in Warsaw, Stary Browar in Poznan, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Starting from Scratch De Bali Amsterdam, performed with saxophonis Alan Wilkinson in Lumen's Evolution Leeds, Ocularis in New York City and Les Voutes in Paris.
