Prologue

Seven-year-old Jason had always loved school, until this year when he hit third-grade. His teacher was a witch, who was always picking on him.

"Jason, stop playing with your pen and pay attention," his homeroom teacher Miss Benson said. Jason sighed. It had been the sixth time she called on him  in the past thirty minutes, all with negative intentions. Everyone in the class looked at him pitifully, except for Jack, he never felt sorry for anyone.

Jason turned to his book and read. A pencil dropped next to his feet and he bent down to pick it up.

"Is this yours?" he whispered to the girl next to him.

"Jason Richardson! This is the last warning. Stop chatting. Some of us came to learn."

Jason looked down at his hands. He couldn't wait till school's over.

    Ring!!!

"Class, come up to my desk to get back your assignment when I called you name. Wait for you parents to pick you up," Miss Benson said. "Margaret Bishop."

A blonde little girl walked up. "Good job, Margaret. Lovely drawings," Miss Benson complimented smiling. Margaret whispered a shy "Thank you." and walked back to her seat.

"Jason Richardson," Miss Benson frowned. Jason walked up nervously. "Could have done better," she said icily. "Kaley Harwell."

Jason looked at his paper in disbelieve. It was the best composition he had ever done, even his babysitter who was a major in literature and had a low opinion his work said so. He glanced at Julie's paper, she got a 'B'.

"May I take a look at your composition?" he asked sweetly. Julie gave it to him. He quickly read it. His jaw dropped. "What the-- " Hers wasn't even better than his, in fact, even worse. 'I should have gotten an 'A'.' he thought looking at his C-graded paper. 'Maybe this would get Dad to believe me."

"Jason, your father is here," Miss Amelia called. There's always a rush of excitement when his father arrived, because he dad is a Backstreet Boy. It always irritated Miss Benson, though that didn't happen when Uncle Brian came to fetch him.

"Can I borrow this for a day?" he asked Julie hastily.

   "Well..."

"Please! I really want my dad to read it."

"Okay!" Jason rushed to his father.

Kevin hugged him. "You forgot to say 'Bye!' to your teacher," his father reminded kindly. Jason blushed.

   "Bye, Miss Benson."

"Goodbye," she replied coldly and turned back to the class.
