Social Impact

Unlike catastrophes that pull communities together, this epidemic was so terryfying that it ripped apart society.  Frightened people blamed the Jews and they were driven from their homes or sometimes even massacred.  The Church suffered when it's prayers failed to stop the plague.  Many people who saw how quickly life could end became pecimistic about life and began to fear the future, for death could take them anytime, anywhere.  Others seeked pleasure at the thought of dying and made the most out of what was left of their life.
