The Morning

Dawn crept slowly

Fingers of light filtering

Through the green wings of the trees;

The earth was sleeping

Underneath a mist blanket.

She stood in the clearing –

Eyes of ice and snow;

But underneath, the water moved freely –

A turbulent current surging beneath the still exterior.

The house stood silent –

No weeping for her

Just the quiet, meditative mourning…

And the earth waking; pushing the soft haze off her limbs…

Turn away from – this – your home.

Heavy; weight upon her chest

Away, away –

Like the dust goes with the wind…

Whispers – laughter – images of smiles;

Little children playing; crunching over fallen leaves

The girl was slowly fading…

The house was receding

Behind towering trees and dirt road…

The earth didn’t see her leave;

Only found the comforting clearing empty…

And it knew not whether to cry for joy or sadness.
