Tidworth 1 Barton Stacey 3

After three consecutive defeats GWA and Cross Country Engineering sponsored Barton Stacey needed to win. With the compass set to North East, Barton Stacey headed for the middle of Tidworth and to a ground on which they had prospered in previous seasons, the omens were good. The start however was not, the home team started well and had an early effort ruled offside, an early let off for the travelers. Worse followed as Barton struggled to settle and Tidworth took the lead. The goal seemed to spark Barton into life and from a free kick, just outside the home sides’ penalty area, Barton leveled through Martyn Doolin’s stinging right footed drive. Barton enthused by a goal went close on several occasions before Alex Iddles converted from close range to put Barton in the lead at the break.

The second half began evenly with both sides creating chances but both were unable to apply a finishing touch. The home side could have leveled things mid way through the half as their ever impressive winger was denied by Barton’s keeper, James Oliver. With nerves still jangling on the side line, Barton tied things up through Luke Tiller as he headed in from a corner kick. With a win under their belts Barton need to build on this success to pull away from the bottom of the table.
