18th November 2007 Hampshire Cup 2nd - Bounty 7 Barton Stacey 2 With a run of 4 wins in 5 games behind them, Cross Country Engineering sponsored Barton Stacey travelled to Basingstoke to face Bounty; a young skilful side, and one of the strongest teams in the Basingstoke league. After last weeks nail biter when manager Barry Purdue had a bench full of subs to choose from, it was disappointing that Barton could only field ten men for this game. It was a good job that they were 10 “Good Uns” In freezing temperatures and in the foulest rain this was a 2-coat day for manager Purdue. Bounty played some very sharp football, moving the ball well to create their goals. Barton Stacey conceding four in the first half. Early in the second half goals from Dan Knott and Sean Marshall gave 10 man Barton Stacey hope, Mickey Dewey narrowly missed with a header, before Bounty wrapped up the tie with a further 3 goals. A superb gutsy display in appalling weather conditions from Barton Stacey, who had their backs to the wall from the kick off; playing some crisp passing football, albeit in spells, they never gave up against the superior numbers of the home team. Stirring stuff, and encouraging signs that Barton Stacey are not far away from putting an opposing side to the sword.
