Thruxton  1  Barton Stacey  2

Bill James and Jon Mark Spatcher in charge for this one, manager Purdue away on a scouting mission with Chris Hebdon to Stamford Bridge       (I think that’s what he said?)

Barton Stacey looking to build on last week’s impressive form forced into changes.  A hobbling Scott Tarrant returned in goal, Gary Nowel filled in at left back.  Mickey Dewey returned in defence, as did Wayne Turpin in midfield. The striking partnership from the previous week’s win of Dan de Heaume and Luke Tiller remained.

Barton started the game well, having the majority of possession and creating more chances, culminating in Dan de Heaume’s well-taken goal in the 30th minute, when he sprinted from his own half to beat the keeper. Thruxton appeared to have suffered an unsettled night, a tad tetchy, the first signs of indiscipline creeping in following the goal, the theatrical striker eventually losing the plot when he ran ten yards to shove Dan Knott in the back and earn himself a yellow card and a fine, a real credit crunch, and not the best way to spend your hard earned moolah in the current financial climate.

Thruxton responded well in the second half, piling the pressure on a tired Barton back line, the striker with the equity membership eventually pulling his side level with an overhead kick when a simple tap in would have sufficed.

Barton Stacey responded superbly, Dan de Heaume scoring his second of the match and his fourth in two games, when he raced through the middle to beat the keeper; De Heaume missing out on a hat trick minutes later when his non-stop running left the failing Thruxton back line for dead, only for his shot to shave the post.  With the game gone, Thruxton’s back line lost the plot.  The previously impressive centre back spending the last valuable two minutes of the game arguing with the ref, eventually having to be restrained by his teammates as the ref drowned out his coarse words with the final whistle.  All smiles for the men in green, with back to back wins helping them to consolidate their mid table position in division 1.
