2nd December 2007

Cup 2nd round

Tidworth RBL  3    Barton Stacey   2

The third meeting between these two sides this season, Barton Stacey the victors on the previous two occasions.  With Jon Mark Spatcher out through injury and several players unavailable, for the umpteenth time this year Barton were unable to field an unchanged side.

In pouring rain, driving wind and in their blue/grey second kit Barton Stacey took an early lead through a 30-yard Simon Schulze screamer. With a lead established Barton Stacey played some superb passages of passing football; Alex Iddles, Martyn Doolin, Dan Knott and Ally Walker winning the midfield battle; Mickey Dewey, Wayne Turpin, Rhys Betteridge and Chris Dewey looking comfortable at the back, keeper Scott Tarrant relatively untroubled for much of the first half. Despite being the dominant side GWA sponsored Barton Stacey were unlucky to concede in the 30th minute. Sticking to their passing game Barton Stacey continued to create chances; replying shortly before half time when Dan de Heaume drove into the box from the right hand side to score.

Well worth their one goal lead at half time it was always going to be mistakes that allowed Tidworth back into the game, a Mickey Dewey own goal early in the second half drew Tidworth level, a failure to deal with the lively Tidworth striker enabled Tidworth to take a winning lead. Barton Stacey unlucky to lose this cup-tie in which they had been the dominant side for the majority of the game. 1
