Barton Stacey 4 Railway Tavern 0
Another week another line-up, GWA sponsored Barton Stacey fielding five changes from the previous weeks game against title chasing Chestnut. A lean looking Lee Maspero returned in the centre of defence alongside the impressive Guy Wilkinson, and in front of stand in keeper Rhys Betteridge. Chris Oliver continued at right back, Simon Schulze at left back. Alex Iddles and Dan Knott were joined in midfield by Nick Battusson and Pete Beeching, Dan de Heaume and Luke Tiller returned to front the attack. The first half an hour passed without much incident save Dan de Heaume taking a hit in the conkers, and Dr Evil withdrawing from the Railway defence with a calf strain. How he must have wished for a Minnie Me to replace him and do his defensive bidding, as Barton Stacey took control of the game. Luke Tiller opened the scoring from the edge of the six-yard box. 2 minutes later Pete Beeching’s low struck shot hit the post, Beeching scoring Barton’s second shortly afterwards following a well worked corner from Alex Iddles and Dan Knott. Two goals in front at half time, Barton Stacey were threatening to put a cricket score on Railway Tavern. The second half continued in much the same vein, Barton pressing the game and creating chances, Railway trying to hit back on the break. No Austin Powers for the sidelined Dr Evil to tackle, just superior numbers as the Railway midfield failed to join in the attacking play. Chris Oliver narrowly missed from 30 yards, and Dan Knott and Alex Iddles threatened from corners before Dan de Heaume scored two well-taken goals to seal the tie for Barton Stacey. An impressive performance by de Heaume, who constantly demands the ball, and runs and runs from first minute to last. With week in week out performances like this Barton would be pushing for top spot in division 1, Yeah baby! |
