The recollections of the season to follow !961-62 are very sketchy, however Barton's first taste of success was in winning the Division II / III Challenge Cup which appears to have set them up for their most successful season to date. The season of 1962 - 1963 began with three friendly matches against Sutton Scotney, Royal Army Pay Corps Worthy Down and Abbotts Ann. The first league match was away to to Andover Old Boys Reserves on 22nd September, although the Old Boys did withdraw from the league at the end of the season. The season (for the record) therefore commenced on the 13th October away to Kimpton in the Hants Junior 'B' Cup. The game at Kimpton was won with Barton scoring 7 goals. Next Barton met Abbotts Ann away in the North Hants Junior 'B' Cup and won 4:0. New Street came to the rec' for the teams first home league match and was won 6:3. On November 10th another home game followed against our neighbours Wherwell in Round 2 of the Hants 'B' Cup. This too was won 6:2. On November 17th Round 2 of the North Hants 'B' Cup meant journeying to Ecchinswell. This was another convincing win, the score being 6:1. The next league match was on November 24th against Kelly's at home and was won 2:1. The following Saturday's game, another league match at Ludgershall was cancelled, but the following Saturday, 8th December Round III of the Hants Junior 'B' Cup was played at home against Blue Peter Sports. This proved to be another easy victory, the score being 7:4. Unfortunately Mother Nature then took over, in the pattern of snow and ice and the next match was not until March 2nd when again Barton journeyed to Ecchinswell for Round IV of the Hants 'B' Cup. This proved a tough encounter which was eventually won 4:3 after extra time. Next was Round IV of the North Hants 'B' Cup at Hartney Wintney, again Barton won 5:0. Barton Stacey suffered their first taste of defeat in the Andover League Cup on the following Saturday, going down to Enham Alamein first eleven, by 5 goals to 1. However they returned to winning form the next week by beating Andover Blue Star Reserves 4:2 in Round 2 of the Division II and III Cup. Barton returned to League football again when they beat St. Mary Bourne at home 7:1. Next was one of the best wins so far, when Barton travelled to Broughton in Round VI of the Hants 'B' Cup - the score being 4:1 in. Another cup match versus Pegasus Reserves at home in the semi-final of the North Hants 'B' competition. This was rather an easy victory - the score being 5:2, so Barton had reached the final of the North Hants "B" Cup. The next match was back to league again, when they met and defeated Ludgershall at home, for the second time 4:1. On 20th April Barton Stacey had their longest journey of the season when they travelled to Boscombe to play in the quarter-final of the Hants 'B' Cup. Unfortunately for the second time they tasted defeat, losing 4:2. But perhaps this was a blessing in disguise for they were then able to concentrate upon the remaining competitions. Next was their first mid-week game on Wednesday, 24th April when they beat St. Mary Bourne away in a league match 4:1. The following Saturday Barton returned to St. Mary Bourne in Round III of Division II and III Cup and again proved too good for them, winning again 4:1. The next game was a league fixture away to neighbours Wherwell and again was won 5:3. The return league match with Wherwell on the following Saturday was won in more convincing manner, the score being 5:1. Another mid-week game the next Wednesday, away to Enham Reserves. Even though they fielded 5 first team players Barton scraped home 1:0. On Saturday 11th May Barton had a tough consignment against Ludgershall Reserves at Wherwell in the semi-final of Division II and III Cup. However this was won 3:1 and thus they had reached the final of two cups. The much looked forward to day came when Barton Stacey was evacuated to The Walled Meadow, Andover, on Wednesday, 15th May, not because of a 'bomb scare' in the Married Quarters - that came later - but to see Barton Stacey do battle against New Street in the final of the North Hants Junior Cup 'B'. After a very hard and keenly fought match they came out victorious and their ambition had been achieved, for they had won the second senior competition for which they had entered. Upon return to the village there was much jubilation and celebration.
On Saturday, three days later, the 18th May, the village was again evacuated and once again to The Walled Meadow, Andover. And once again the opponents were their our old friends New Street. This was the final of Division II and III Cup and their aim was to retain this cup. This was going to be no easy task for no doubt New Street would be out for revenge. But as on Wednesday, after taking an early lead, the Barton lads did not look back, and were again victorious this time by 3:1. Thus 'the double' had been achieved. Again upon return to the village there was much jubilation, but doubly so. Barton Stacey now were faced with going for 'The Treble' by winning the League. This too was going to be no easy task for it meant playing each evening of the following week to complete our fixtures by the end of the season. Though some teams saw fit to field first team players, the results of these games were as follows: Monday - Enham Home Won 4:2 Tuesday - Ludgershall Away Won 4:1 Wednesday - New Street Away Lost 3:2 Thursday - Kelly's Away Won 5:0 On the Friday, Blue Star failed to play but this was eventually played on Saturday evening and this was their only draw of the season, but the one point gained was sufficient to win the league Division II, and to everyone's delight, completed 'The Treble' after a very arduous but most successful season. Later that same evening the League Championship Cup and plaques were presented to the team (at a dance held in Pitts Trailers Social Club) by Mr. H. B. Penton and Mr. C. H. Evans, Chairman and Secretary respectively of the Andover and District Junior Football League. So the season ended very fittingly at the dance, where the three cups were displayed - when not in use for another purpose. Thanks were given to all who had contributed toward making the season such a successful one. Needless to say the players led by their captain, deserve a special mention, Frank Smith and his magic sponge, A. French for acting as linesman, Billy Hoare who, though not a member of any committee, helped and indeed on occasion erected the nets himself for most home matches, Peggy and Barbara for making ground collections, John Smith for accepting phone calls, Brian Grimmer for doing the posters, Tom Thornton Jun for taking photographs at the two finals, and not forgetting the supporters who came along to cheer the lads on, and last, but by no means least, the youngsters who gave more vocal support than anyone to encourage the players to victory on so many occasions, especially in the two cup finals. Thanks were also given to Tony Freeman, who ran the weekly football competition, which was the main source of money coming into the Club and without such a scheme the Club's financial position would not have been so healthy. They played a total of 29 matches winning 25, drew one and lost three. In all they scored 118 goals and conceded 50. Pictured below the winning formula.
