| Marit Larsen, guest appeance on Nitimen 11/01/06
thanks to Halvard for the translation Interviewer: ..and then we have two visitors in the studio, Marit Larsen & Marius Graff. They are gonna be singing and playing for us, welcome! Marit &Marius: Thank you! (immediately lauches into a guitar, mandolin and harmonica version of This Time Tomorrow) Applause follows I: That was great, thanks to Marit Larsen and Marius Graff! Welcome here again, Marit! And you got Marius with you, a tall guy, hes really tall ! Marit: Hes very tall! (laughs) I: And that little thing he plays on there (the mandolin), I was so impressed he managed to hit the right notes and frets ! Very good, butMarit Larsen, the half of M2M, and that is a fact you have to live with for the rest of your life? Marit: Yes that is right, Ill have to. I: You became very successful, it was like.schwooosshhhhright to the top, and then it was all over, but youre still friends right? Marit: Yes we are. I: and you still say Hi to each other and stuff? Marit: Of course we do, we are childhood friends. Many childhood friends tend to grow apart, but we have a lot of wonderful memories together. Of course. What we got to experience together was incredible. I: In 2002, if we can use this expression, you sort of faded out? Where did you go? M: First thing, let me say the reason Im a known person is that I am a musician. Thats why people know me. So when I have no new music to present, I dont see the reason why I should be in the limelight. And I just wanted to get away from it all. I just wanted to play, be inspired and have a quiet time for working. I: Hmm, ok. Did you earn a lot of money, can I ask you that? Were you rich then? Marit: I had more money than other people my age. I: So you could live a quiet life and not have to worry bout the income? Marit: Yes, I could. But I have kinda invested some of it during the years I: You have bought a guitar for example! Marit: Yes I have! (she picks up the guitar) I: Yes, let me see that! Marit: Isnt it nice? (laughs) I: Yes, of course it is! But if you had asked me how much this guitar cost, I dont think I would have guessed 60.000 norwegian crowns (about 9000 US dollars) Marit: But if you had played it..(laughs again) I: I could havebut it would have sounded cheap no matter what. But this is a really nice instrument, isnt it? Marit: Its hand made.with lots of mother-of-pearl inlays. I: Oh my, 60 000, thats a lot for a guitar. Youre getting into the violin-price range now. M: Well, not quite I: And a mandolin you bought too, that he played. Dont he have his own instruments? Marit: (laughs), Oh yes, he has lots of them! But he really plays guitar! I: So now you have been sitting at home, writing new material? Did you feel that what you were doing in M2M really was not what you wanted to do? Marit: I was so young when we first started that it was hard to define your own preferences. As we grow older, and I think people noticed this too, we went into different directions, so it became a compromise. I: How old were you when you first started? Marit: We met when we were 5 years old. We recorded our first record at 11 and 12. Now Im 22, so it has been a while. I: And now, if everything works out, Marion Raven - as she is called now - is going to be big over there, going for the international markets. What are your plans? Marit: I have been lucky to be able to make the record that I wanted to make. Not everyone is given that chance in life, so Im really satisfied with just that. But of course I hope that I will be able to make a living being an artist, have it as an occupation, playing. Keep playing I will anyhow. I: You are very young M: I still am! I: Im an old man, and you are young. I read this article about you where you say that you had to live an ordinary life to be able to start writing again. You talk like you were a worn out star with lots of life-experience, and you do that, only aged 22? Marit: I have been in the business for so long, so I know more than many others my age in this area. But then, in other areas I havent got the same routine and experience. Like doing the dishes, cooking and washing, Ive kinda been lagging behind there! (laughs). I: To live an ordinary life again and start writing. What do you have in mind? Marit: I thought that, in M2M all there was to write about was our lives at the time. When all you see is airports, fans and journalists, you dont have very much to write about. So to get back and be a part of the gang of friends again, see your family again, those things has been inspiring. I: Before we end this interview, what is your dream? Marit: I have had my dream come true now with this record. I: And that was it? Marit: No, I have a lot of dreams. I: So what is the next step? Marit: I have gotten myself a nice band that I hope I will be able to bring with me on a long tour eventually. I: Do you own all the instruments in the band? Marit: No of course not, they have their own instruments (laughs) I: So then what, what is the next dream? To get the show on the road? Marit: To get out on the road, play and meet an audience, and of course hopefully be able to take those experiences with me and make another record I: Good luck, and now were going to hear the first single from your new soon-to-be released album. |
