I got my puberty well documented in the press, Marit Larsen says. Now the former M2M-star is back in the limelight – as a mature and self-confident woman.
Marit Larsen has been in the game a longer time than most. The 22-year old is experienced in media-handling, always has a smiley face and is well-spoken.
- My mother taught me to be happy. She always said that there should be a very good reason not to smile.
Today, the girl from Lørenskog understands what her mother meant. Norway is one of the world’s best countries to grow up in.
The last few years, only archive-photos of me have been used. Now it’s great to see some new ones.
The Pressures Of Limelight
The pop-artist is more comfortable with life and the limelight today than when she was a part of the pop-duo. After M2M she dyed her hair dark again, and it was like flicking the light switch. Suddenly she was allowed to walk around in the streets unnoticed. Marit loved the freedom.
-It’s a pressure to be in the spotlight at all times. You think a lot about the way you look.
For example, it’s irritating to see that one arm is longer than the other, she says.
Marit laughs. Then she grabs the cup of cocoa, and puts some cream in the glass with the other hand. Marit does not pay a lot of attention to what she eats, but then again she is working out, doing strength- and condition-training five times a week.
-When you’re working out that much, you may eat whatever you like, she thinks.
Marit is a caring person, and spends a lot of time with family and friends. Your friends are the family you choose.
Laying Herself Bare
The 22-year old agrees that a lot has changed since M2M. Today there is a stronger woman hiding behind Marit’s charming and pleasant manner. The lyrics on ‘Under The Surface’ are more real and honest. Marit tells us that she has not got a defined image, but that she has a more natural look now than before.
- I want to be perceived as honest and sure of myself. The record is also totally honest.
It’s almost like taking all your clothes off. It’s about things I’ve experienced, the here-and-now principle, about situations and people that I care about.
-My music is pop-folk. It’s almost completely acoustic.
And Marit has contributed a lot on the record. She plays piano, guitar, harmonica and mandolin.
And her ambitions are clear.
-I hope that this record will be a good foundation, and that it will build an audience. And of course I would like to tour as well, Marit smiles.
Unbridled By The Record Company
If the record is successful here in Norway, Marit is no stranger to the idea of trying to make it abroad too. She has the right contacts from the M2M-days.
-I just hope that the first album is received well, so that I can release my second. The record company has allowed me to do whatever I want, so I feel that this record reflects who I am, a real and honest Marit.
