MUSIC SCENE
Let me clear something up here. I'm really a movie person, but I do like to listen to music just about everyday. And I would like to say right here and now that I do not consider you a musician/artist if you don't either a) write your own music, or b) play your own instrument What happened to the glory days of the Rolling Stones and Janis Joplin? Teen groups like *N SYNC and Backstreet Boys need to move on out.

Smash Mouth has been one of my favortie bands for a long, long time. Steve Harwell, Greg Camp, Paul De Lisle, and Michael Urbano are the four dudes that make up Smash Mouth. Of couse, my favorite songs are the classics they made like "All-Star", "I'm A Believer", "Then the Morning Comes", "Can't Get Enough of You Baby", and "Walking on the Sun." If you haven't already heard them, they're great. Check 'em out.

Sugar Ray is another group that I've like for some time now. Mark McGrath isn't too bad to look at either. The band includes Mark McGrath, Murphy Karges, Rodney Sheppard, Stan Frazier, and DJ Homicide. My favorite songs are probably "When It's Over", "Someday", and "Every Morning". They are great to listen to. If you like Smash Mouth, you'll probably like Sugar Ray. Great group, always inventive and a little crazy - just the way I like 'em..

So, if you wanna argue my point, or if you'd like to suggest a band or artist, of a song from a band or artist and have me post it - that's cool. Just e-mail me. It can be absoutely any type of music from anywhere in the world. Or maybe you have a comment of your own on these groups or on the Grammys - whatever it is just drop a line!
Now, Aerosmith has been around for a while, but they're still rocking. Actually, I went to MGM Studios in Orlando, Florida this past summer and rode on Aerosmith's Rollercoaster. It was pretty cool and the music blasts in your ear. I saw Aerosmith in concert a couple years ago here in New York. There were a variety of artists there. It was a Z100 concert, for you New Yorkers who know what I'm talking about. The band includes Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Brad Whitford, and Tom Hamilton. "Jaded", "Walk This Way", "Crazy", "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" and "Just Push Play" are my favorite Aerosmith songs.

Blink-182 is one heck of a crazy band - and I love 'em. They seem to be having fun all the time. The band is made up of Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker. I especially enjoyed their "Adam's Song" and "All the Small Things." They're also known for their naked music videos.

This is the Goo Goo Dolls! Yup, it's John Rzeznik on the guitar and vocals, Robby Takac on the bass, and Mike Malinin on the drums! Now these guys are pretty cool and their music rocks! My favorite album was Dizzy Up the Girl, especially the songs "Broadway" and "Iris".

Shakira
Colombian singer/songwriter Shakira is an amazing performer. I saw her in the Tour of the Mongoose - it was incredible. Her album, Laundry Service is great - there's her classics, "Whenever, Wherever" and "Underneath Your Clothes", but I also love "Objection", "Rules", "Fool", "Te Dejo Madrid", and "Ojos Asi". What I like about her is that she writes her own music in two different languages and she can play the guitar!
I've liked No Doubt since 5th grade when I heard "Don't Speak" and "I'm Just a Girl" from their album Tragic Kingdom- Don't Speak has to be one of my favorite songs. The band consists of Gwen Stefani - Vocals; Tony Kanal - Bass; Tom Dumont - Guitar; and Adrian Young - Drums. I also liked their "Simple Kind of Life" from their Return of Saturn Album. "Underneath it All" and "Hey Baby" are their newest hits from their 5th album, Rock Steady.

No Doubt
The best thing to happen to music in a long time. That's all I have to say about these guys. What guys you ask? Well there's Joel whose the lead vocalist. Benji, Joel's twin brother does vocals and plays guitar too; Billy plays guitar; & Paul's on Bass. My friend Lisa was really into these guys, she used to talk about them ALL the time. 24/7. So I decided to listen to their music and I absolutely loved it. I rushed out to geth their album and it's awesome! I listen to it at least once a day. It's hard to pick a favorite song. I'd have to say "The Anthem"; "Emotionless"; "Hold On"; "The Day That I Die"; "Riot Girl", omg ALL OF THEM!! All the songs are great! I think they're going on tour this Spring with New Found Glory!

Alanis Morissette
Alanis Nadine Morissette was born in Ottawa, Canada. Her music is very personal and that's probably why I like it so much. Her heart & soul is poured into everything she does. Her album, Jagged Little Pill, is the highest selling female album and the 3rd highest selling album of all times. "You Oughta Know", "Ironic"; "Hand in My Pocket" & "Thank You" are my favorite Alanis songs. She totally rocks and her videos are off the hook.
Dashboard Confessional

Dashboard Confessional was created by Christopher Carrabba. Most of Carrabbas music is acoustic and accompanied by simple bass and drums. I really enjoyed the MTV Unplugged album, I loved "Saints & Sailors" live. His songs are very personal and most people can relate to them. You should definitely take the time to listen to these guys.
If you were alive in 2000 then you heard 3 Doors Down and their hit songs "Kryptonite". Brad Arnoldis is the lead singer with the guitarist Matt Roberts, the bassist Todd Harrell, and the guitarist Chris Henderson. Their new single "When I'm Gone" is an awesome song. I love it. This band is unbelievable - they have a great sound (w/a new drummer) and they're a credit to the rock industry. Check em out.

It's got great lyrics and an catchy rhythm. Their debut album, Hybrid Theory, went mutli-platinum with songs like "In The End", "Papercut", and "One Step Closer". Check out their songs, they're great. |
