June 17 Meeting
Our next business meeting will be Thursday, June 17, at 1930. It will be in the Administration Building Conference Room at Base Mobile.

1999 Spring Roundup Great Success
The 1999 Spring Roundup was a great success. Flotilla 39 had
a good turn out and ended up providing the most facilities. There were three other Flotillas represented along with the regular Coast Guard (some of who were there on their day off). The theme of the day was an introduction to crew qualifications for the 41 footers. Photos from the roundup are shown on this page.

TOP PROP AWARD
The Top Prop Award will go to the best Boat Crew in the Division. Teams are made up of at least 3 BCM qualified as a Coxswain or Crew. The winning team will demonstrate the skills in the boat crew manual better than all the other crews that have entered. The Top Prop competition will be held in October (date to be announced) and the award will be presented at the November Division Meeting.

Public Education
Flotilla 39 has started into it's summer schedule of Public Education Classes. The next class was Saturday June 12th at the Alba Club. We will be offering a Boating Safely course in July, August, September, and October at the Alba Club starting the second Saturday of each month. We will also offer a Boating Safely Course at Spring Hill Baptist Church Activity Center starting the 27th of July.
We are continuing to get inquiries daily about the courses we offer. Capt. Steve Andrews, our new member, will be assisting us with the Basic and Advanced Coastal Navigation and a brand new course Navigating with GPS (a two hour introduction to the Coastal Navigation series).

[email protected] so that we can have a Flotilla email directory. Is "CS" For You ??
In January of 1999, the Chief Director authorized the creation of a new Staff Officer position. Communication Services Staff Officer ( "CS" for short), is a very important appointed position at the Flotilla FSO-CS, Division SO-CS, or District ADSO-IS/CS level. These officers will help or organization transition into the communications of the next millennium!
Whether we are talking about E-mail, electronic media Specialty Nets, WEBWatchers (to help relay information to those members not yet "connected"), or Websites with a dedicated Webmaster/Webmistress at the helm, they are all part of the "CS" system. You can get detailed information on the "CS" officer position at AIRS: http://209.41.115.186/airs/
In an effort to give you the tools you need for the job, OCX at HQ is now offering special website and other electronic media training at Oklahoma State University. Detailed information on OSU training can also be found at AIRS.
Training will also be ongoing at District workshops, and a very special session will be held at NACON 99 in Orlando. Jeff Mahl DVC-IE will be giving a unique PowerPoint session at that time. It's a presentation you won't want to miss! If your unit does not have a "CS" officer and you are interested in this challenging and rewarding position, speak to your FC, DCP or VCO and let them know! You'll be glad you did, and you will be helping us into the next century of Auxiliary communications.
