| M, Ma, Mar, Maro? Is that you? She said as her head rolled. Yes Misheno Olpken! I was holding her now. C, C, C, Call me Misheno, the, the base, it was, Attacked? I suggested for her. Y, Ye, Yes. It was the new, new maufia. They, they brought... Brangletrs and Trignots... she trailed off into coma. GET A DOCTOR! I screamed frantically at Miss Dunick, Juilu and the strange man. Paluquo started to turn his blackest green Juilu spoke up. Ill, Ill, Ill go get the doctor. Ill run my fastest Mar, full out fastest, and with that she bolted through the door her Myto fallowing closely. Maro, you need to come over here and let Miss Dunick see Misheno, the strange man said sternly. I did so but barley conscientiously. I was wondering how many people had been hurt like Misheno in this ambush. Miss Dunick swiftly swooped down and examined Misheno. She had a bullet in the right side of her chest and was bleeding heavily. When the Doctor arrived he shook his head sadly but yelled to the medical workers. They ran into the schoolhouse and took Misheno away. Miss Dunick, maybe you should take Maro home? The Doctor said in low tone. Maro picked up the last word home and looked around frantically. No! I yelled hoarsely Dont send me home! Send me to the Hospital with Misheno! Send me to the Bulikos! Send me to the Prison! Just anywhere but home! He looked from face to face trying desperately to see what they were going to do. Doctor, the boy is upset, maybe if you were to leave him here for a bit hed be better, Miss Dunick swiftly suggested. Yes, yes, yes I dont care. I must get this girl all fixed up. Until later. And with a hurried tip of his hat he left. Maro why did you say that? Miss Dunick asked but already knew the answer. Well Miss Dunick, I think you already know, I started. Maro before anything I need to tell you why Im here. I work with your parents, you know in the wars, and about two months ago something horrible happened. Maro your parents are dead, the mystery man said, and Im here to take you to were you really belong. My head spun. Misheno was badly hurt, this mystery man worked with his parents and I had been and orphan for two months. The implications of the previous statements forced me to fall and hit my head. Unconsciousness hit me like a title wave. Chapter Two: Backward Progress and Slow Acceleration Maro! Maro wake up! The voice of Juilu cried in my ear. In annoyance I swatted half heartedly at her. What had happened to make me so tired? My hand going to my head in reflex, I felt bandages, wet bandages. My eyes flew open to see my own blood on my hands. Starting to panic I looked at Juilu. She was positively radiant. What in the name of Taymara was happening? Maro! Youre awake! She yelled and gave me a colossal hug. I gasped for breath. Paluquo yelped. He ran towards me and landed on Juilus head. Sari ran after him. Juilu, what happened? I cant remember, did I hit my head really hard or something? Why is my head bleeding? I asked a little befuddled. You, you dont remember? Oh Maro, I dont think I should tell you, and not now anyways, sympathy racked her eyes and her very posture. Paluquo rubbed up against my chest. Sari paced the floor. Juilu, I need to know, I started. Yes you do need to know, but right now you need rest Maro, and that is an order! Mishenos voice crept form beside me. Juilu looked menacingly to the curtain. Misheno? I asked as I tugged at the curtain. Maro, go back to sleep, youve been unconscious for almost a month, well talk about this when it isnt so dark, she said. For the first time I noticed Juilu had a candlelight and the rest of the place was dark. Realising that I had woken many people up I shrugged back into my warm blankets to sleep again. How easily that sleep came. I woke up at dawn, to find the Doctor looking down at me. This frightened me for a minute, but then calmed down to see Juilu still beside me, fast asleep still. Welcome back Maro, how do you feel? The Doctor asked me. Im fine sir, a little stiff and my brain feels groggy but other than that.... So how do you feel other wise, emotionally I mean, he persisted. Tell you the truth Doctor, I cant remember how I got here, or anything else up to the day I got out of the hospital after that brutal attack, I said mystified. So Juilu said, so Juilu said, the Doctor was seemingly sad. Maro there is much you must be reminded of, so come with me you bed-ridden child, the Doctor pulled me up, and to my embarrassment I found my self in a light hospital gown. Pulling on a thick fuzzy blanket to walk around with and slippers on my feet, I followed the Doctor to his office. Theyre the mystery man and Miss Dunick sat waiting. Maro, they both said timidly. Maro, what do you remember about the day you got out of the hospital? Miss Dunick asked. Everything up to when I went to go talk to you about, well about something, I was getting scared. Well Maro there is much to explain, she sighed. Can I show him? Asked the man. What do you mean Show him the Doctor asked. I have certain, powers you might say, to show people what Ive seen, its quite harmless really unless... Show me what, begin you pardon Sir, but what? I asked. Proceed, the Doctor said. With that the man reached for Maro. What are you doing? I asked a little more scared. Dont be scared Maro, just relax. Let you mind slip into nothing, there you are. Relaxed, there we go, calm down, focus on not focusing, the man said soothingly. My eyes fluttered and I felt the world slip away, dissolve before my feet. I felt his presence in my head along with me. Maro, now youre going to see what has been happening these past days, now try not to fight me, this will only take a second.. And I felt his moving around in my brain. Get out! Youre not supposed to look through other peoples minds! Get out, get out! I thought angrily. But it was too late. It felt as though my eyes were opening. I saw, almost in fast forwards, what had happened to me. I saw myself get out of the Hospital, talk to Miss Dunick, meet up with Juilu, see the strange man start talking to me, Misheno with the wound, getting the doctor, and then... his mind stopped showing me. But I knew. He knew I did. My world came crashing down again. My eyes shot open and I felt the sorrow of losing my parents hit me hard. Fighting as hard as I could to not cry, I looked at them all. Standing there, as though they knew what I was feeling. How could they! The only reason I hadnt run away from the abuse was the fact that they would come and rescue me. Now that wasnt even a possibility. Why had he told me that? But wait who had killed them? Who made me an orphan? Who was causing me such pain? Infuriated now, I looked up. Who, was all I could say. <-- Back Next--> Home Stories |
