- NEWS FLASH August 19, 2000: I'll be coming back to Jax for the ceremony to spread the ashes. Pastor Gabe will be performing the ceremony, to be followed by an open period where friends can share their thoughts. Details: meet at 7am at the Sea Turtle. We'll walk a few streets north from there an then onto the beach. Once the ceremony is done and everyone has spoken, I'll paddle out on a surfboard to spread the ashes. Anyone who wants to is welcome to bring a board and paddle out too. If you have questions about the ceremony don't hesitate to call me: work 408-975-7409, home 510-713-8524

Just prior to that there will be another memorial service (see below) at approx 5pm-6:30pm also at Jax Beach. I'll bring cool photos of the wedding and other recent stuff that is not yet on the website. I'm really looking forward to seeing the folks I know again, and meeting a bunch of new people too.

- Approx Jun 2000 - We'll scatter her ashes into the Atlantic, the ocean in which she and I both played while growing up. I'm waiting until summer to do this since she was always so sunny.
December News
- Sat 11 Dec 99 - Paige's memorial service was held today at Mission Springs Community Church, her newly found home out here. The turnout was staggering to me, with at least 100-150 people showing up. Paige's circle of close friends out here was actually quite small, and never rivaled those back east, yet the circle of people she touched was immense. The service was beautiful. Many of us had a chance to share the impact she's had on us and attest to her incredible will and generosity. [More Details]
- Tues 07 Dec 99 - Paige passed away at 1:30pm today in as peaceful a manner as I could have ever envisioned. Pastor Rob from church was there and had just lead a prayer with her, Joan and me. Paige was clearly in there and cognizant. She was struggling to speak but the morphine and accumulated stress of the week had taken their toll, and it was all she could do to acknowledge your presence. She had gone 25 days without food by this point, and had put forth a Herculean effort to get this far. I'm still amazed at just what she had in her.
November News
- Mon 22 Nov 99 - Paige is doing well overall and may get to go home in the next couple of days, just in time for Thanksgiving. She'll be allowed to EAT a bit too!!! She's very excited about that. She's off the TPN (the intravenous food) for a while since they think that helped elevate her bilirubin. Thus she's going to get all her nutrition (some real food, some supplements) from her own body. Hooray! That's more progress. She's still not ready for more chemo, but we hope that won't be too much longer.
- Thu 18 Nov 99 - Paige's CA125 is 125!!! This is tremendous progress. Her liver is still misbehaving, however, and needs to go back to playing well with others.
- Sun 14 Nov 99 - Dr. Cohen comes in with bad news: her liver function is way off (bilirubin way up) and she is currently 'not treatable' with chemo. She needs to get stronger before more chemo can be given.
- Fri 12 Nov 99 - Paige survived another "life & death" CAT scan of her liver & kidneys. Yikes, we seem to have a bunch of these.
- Thu 11 Nov 99 - Paige checked in to Los Gatos Community Hospital (LGCH) due to increased pain. Morphine drip, self- administered (woo-hoo!) is set up.
October
- October Update - Paige's CA125 is 200!!! The doctors are astounded by her progress. A drop that large from the previous month is almost unheard of. Attagirl!
August/September
- New Chemo (#3) - Paige got her 1st dose of Doxil during the last week of September.
- Update - Paige's CA125 is 1100. The Topotecan seems to have lost its effectiveness and the cancer has 'figured it out.' Bummer.
- August - The 'life & death' test came back OK! No tumor visible on her liver (large tumor was almost expected by the doctors). Her bilirubin (a marker used to indicate liver function) was way up, and they suspected tumor had invaded her liver (read as "game over"). We were stressed to the max for 36 hrs waiting for the CAT scan results to be read and interpreted. Whew!
- July & before - In work. I'll post a synopsis back to the start of all this (Sep 98) soon.
