2 lbs. Steak
1 onion
1 can Cream of Mushroom soup
1-cup flour
2 cups hot water
Seasonings (salt, pepper & garlic powder)
Shortening
Cut steak into 6 pieces. Roll in flour and brown in shortening. While steak is browning, sprinkle with seasonings.
Layer steak with sliced onions in ovenproof pan. When done frying all the steak, sprinkle the rest of the flour over the steak & onions. Pour drippings from the frying pan over the steak & onions. Pour can of soup over the steak and onions. Pour the hot water over all and stir.
Bake with lid on for 1 to 1 ½ hours at 350 degrees.
Note: This recipe for Swiss Steak makes its own gravy. Serve with rice or mashed potatoes.
