$id and his Magic Carpet of Death Defiance

An automobile to every man is as important to him as any relationship he will ever have in his life.  Now his first auto will hold a special place in his heart right next to his first love.  The automobile can be torn down and need a new interior, like a special girl but will always be very special in every way.  Some may think that a 1986 Ford Ranger pickup still on the road at the turn of the century may lack the class that many other vehicles hold but its charms and character outweigh any pricey import or classic domestic vehicle.  The Ranger is the Cadillac of $ids heart.  Who will ever forget the over compensated pull of the steering wheel or having to fight for a seat with the exhaust system in the back or if it might or might not be insured?
The physical attributes of the vehicle are only the pale to the inner heart and character that the silver rocket had.  For one can remember some Hot Babes from the Niagara Region journey to the northern reaches of Barrie about the Ranger.  Who will forget that night when we followed a group of potato heads around town only to find a sectional couch which was then tossed in the back of the truck and with a 30 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon, travelled to the public school soccer field staring at the Northern Lights until a coma kicked in.  Then to awake in the palace at Pinsent Court, truly like a guest of a king to sleep in such quarters, the sunshine, a day off, some more Pabst Blue Ribbon, a case of Steeler, and Neil Youngs Freedom album challenging our neighbourhood obsencenities on the box.   A beautiful August day is best spent at Centennial beach.  Exhausted but eager to get oner we went.  We carried our newly found back seat and former sectional couch to the waters edge where we could soak our feet and cool our beer.  Very pleased not to be hassled by the Five-oh we had expended our beer supply by six that afternoon.  Next to travel to the Ril for downtown days.  Early at the wheel with Derek the wingman and Roj, K, Callum and $id in tow we went forth.
Downtown Days were dead.
With the boys having quite a buzz on Early showing maturity and self-control and took the initiative and drove the crew to the wrong side of the bridge, the East Side of Lake Simcoe to the true depths of despair where the term Deviance takes on a life of its own, where it is elemental and environment rather than personal and imposed To the Atherly Arms.  The Sexy Bar scene was spectacular but our late arrival paired with our casual wit, rugged prettiness and how money we are made the locals a little restless.  The locals of course are the First Nation Chippewas of Minjikaning.  With last call looming like an army of Sioux Braves upon an American cavalry unit lead by Custer we decided to try our luck at the Casino, only up the road from where we were.  However, the dialogue that ensued brought on, it seemed by racial issues that we as liberals and tolerants do not in anyway endorse or support.
Bartender thats it boys were closing.
Early lets go to Rama!
RC Lets do it up
Local youre going to Rama?
Early ye
Local Rama?
Early ye
Local the casino?
Early ye
Local Casino Rama?
$id no the beer garden..eh eh eh eh eh
Early yea were going to the reserve
Local the reserve eh? I live there, you think thats a big joke?
Early not really
Matthias dont worry Im 1/64th native
Outside the fracas continues
RC you cant take beer into the taxi
Local (throws bottle at RC) come here and Ill give you a fat lip
So through the murky early morning mist and haze we continued into what seemed something from a Joseph Conrad novel with a modern and non-fictional setting.  Until the sky light up like the earth had open and an impressive Oasis stood before us Casino Rama.  We let the Ranger rest and chose not to let a stranger take the lady as we bypassed the custom of valet parking.  Into the unknown we went, no one knew us, no one cared.  We came for a good time and looked to take our chances with which little money we have at a system that is designed to and is advertised so as to beat you.  But first we had to sit in the lounge and have a couple drinks like the gentlemen we are.  Some then went forth to seek a fortune.  $id decided he wasnt much on the walking trolley and chose to sit it out.  Early and Rodger then came to visit the crew at the bar after being knock out pretty fast despite being a couple of high-rollers.  On their way in $id was on his way out with his hand over his mouth and little splash of stomach contents hit the floor, $id wiped any leavings off his signature goatee and gave his signature sheepish smile and giggle as he continued to the gentlemens room.  Time went by and the rarest of all things then came to place, people can go to Casinos all their lives and never have such luck as two of our rabble did that night Rodger and Matthias got casino public announcement name respect.  Will Rodger and Matt please go to their car immediately echoed the hot babes voice through the cavernous casino.  All hearing this Early, Callum and Derek join Matt and RC in the general retreat to the Ranger.  When we get there we notice $id and he is surrounded by members of the constabulary.  The officer had been involved with $id in a dialogue that any officer of the law can get a giggle from.  When leaving the Casino $id had lifted one of the valet parking pylons and put it in the back of his car where he also sat in the sectional couch nearing death.
Cst is that your pylon?
$id this one?
Cst. yes this one, does it have your name on it?
$id No, it says Casino Ramamy name is $id
Cst- Could I have it back?
$id sure
Then $ids back-up arrived and the constable wisely rolled back after clearing RC to be the driver.  We left.
Southward bound travelled we.  Back to where we belong and are welcomed and our behaviour is understood and commonplaceBarrie.  Before the trip was over Matthias, being the big winner that night offer to buy all breakfast as now Saturday had turned to Sunday.  The wee hours of that day were precious in the Northway Diner.  $id not being on the eating trolley, nor the walking or waking up trolley could not leave the hinterlands north of Barrie without getting something for free.  So Matthias being the gentleman he is took a creamer to the truck which $id not being too stuck awoke and drank.  On we went true rovers, homeward bound through the Oro Township din into the rising sun in the east, which was by then lighting our weary heads and hearts and the lands of our dreams and visions.
Weather accounts for so much in all our lives.  It determines how we dress, what we do and even how we feel.  At times it can be dangerous, especially when the activities partaken in are not compatible to the forecast.  Again in the Ranger with Rodger driving and Dolbs in the shotgun position and $id and pretty Glenn in the rear a nasty storm was blowing off an angry Lake Erie over the escarpment and onto the fair city of St. Catherines.  $id and Glenn thought they were superheroes that night and some superheroes can fly.  Not really being able to fly by their own means they could achieve the illusion of flight by laying on he top of the cab while the Ranger was in motion.  This continued through the streets of the city formerly known as Shipmans Corners, this region, the eastern cradle of the War of 1812, where the names of the streets echo and respect the saviours of Upper Canada, where super men of past defeated the Yank invader and its current residents are proud to live under the shadow of the memorial of the great hero Isaac Brock.  Where men of this bloody conflict may lay now $ids Ranger drove past a place of such sorrow and of eternal rest - a cemetery.  Stormy weather, Rodger at the wheel is only so foolish when he pilots a craft but not foolish enough to forget windshield wipers to make sure his path is clear and true.  $ids glasses in this case were knocked off his face, ironically by the tools that enhance Rodgers vision and into the cemetery.  $ids vision cloudy he began to knock on the cab to try to convince RC to stop and return for his spectacles.  Rodger, forgetting that he had two unrestrained superheroes on the roof slammed the brakes on the Ranger, causing $id to slide down off the roof, across the windshield and hood on the road in the skidding truck.  Dolbs, with only compassion and concern for his brethren in his heart felt that they had run over $id in the truck and a dear friend may lay wounded or dead beneath his own beloved truck.  Like a messiah rising from a cave, $id arose from the ground illuminated by the headlights wounded and sightless he managed his signature smile and giggle and returned to his place on top on the cab of the Ranger.  $ids glasses were never recovered and may still lie with those who gave their lives for the cause of the crown.  True Canadians much like $id.
