The visit to Pompei was to say the least...impressive. The town is well preserved and really quite big. We did not prepare for the amount of time it would take to see everything and ended up moving around quickly just to see the main sights. The stone Nick is standing on is a sidewalk so people did not have to walk on the dirty streets just below it(sewage,etc.).
One of the most haunting sights was the outline of several people trying to shelter themselves from the hot ashes that were falling on them. One person holding a child.
Archeologists were able to fill in some hollow spots with plaster that were found. They ended up being people in the exact spot and position they died in so very long ago. |
