Stripped

Stripping Down the Car

Of course, we have to strip the car down before we begin. I started by removing all the replacement pieces: Suspension arms, and the lowered shock tower in the front.

*NOTE* that I had to remove one of the shock towers, but not the rear one. In order to save money, I used a set of black shocks that I had saved from a previous kit. These Kyosho shocks aren't very pretty, but they do get the job done. The short shocks worked fine, in their stock mounting location, on the standard height red tower. However, the long rear shocks were just too big for the car. I solved this problem by drilling two new holes in the tower using my drill press. A dremel tool or a hand held drill could also make this modification. Unfortunately, this made the rear shocks "lay" more, but I didn't have another $40 for a decent set of rear shocks. Hey, make do where you can!

Next, I removed the motor, and the speed control. I then built the Kyosho shocks, using 30wt silicon oil, and two hole pistons. I sized the shocks (using spacers inside the shock) to keep the suspension from over extending.

Already, I know, the following items cannot be used in this conversion:
