| The first Globe Theatre was built in 1599. It burned down 14 years later in 1613 because of cannon fire from the play HenryVIII lit the thatched roof. In 1614 it was rebuilt with tiles instead of thatching. It had a total capacity of up to 3,000 people. The stage was 43 feet wide 27 or 28 feet deep. It was set 5 feet off the ground. In 1644 it was torn down. It was rebuilt again in 1996 in the very sam place it was first built. | ||||||||||||||||

| Did you know that Shakespeare was involved in a conspiracy against the queen. It happened in 1601. A man named Sir Gilly Meryick asked The Lord Chamberlain's Men to proform a play called Richard II for two pounds.Meryic wanted the play preformed because of it's anti Monarch message, he was hoping that a well- attended performance would generate public sympathy for theose attempting to kill the Queen. Well his plan failed and the plot didn't work. The Lord Chamberlains Men were questioned for their part, but only had to perform in front of the Queen as punishment. | ||||||||||||||||
