The black box of the Bellarophon displays video feeds that portray Captain Kartall in several places of the ship shortly before the accident. He is obviously acting strangely, repeating rudimentary scans over and over again. Three times, he calls in the sickbay with eye problems and excessive headache, and subsequently disobeys doctors’ orders that oblige him to “take a rest”.

Just before the incident, he was seen by the security chief in the engine room, and when asked what he was looking for there, he almost physically assaulted the security chief, which is very unusual behavior for the normally gentle-but-firm captain.

At the time of the event, a security camera on the bridge portray him screaming, clutching horribly at his head... perhaps reaching for his left eye.
