Thirunelvaely District

Thirunelvaely is the southern most part of India in Thamilh Nadu.

According to Thamilhs, the land is classified into 5 types:

KURINCHI - Mountain and surrounding area

MULLAI - Forest and surrounding area

MARUTHAM - Fertile plain land and surrounding area

NEYTHAL - Sea and seashore area

and

PAALAI - Desert area

Thamilhs had their life styles according to these areas, they had specific Gods for each of these areas, customs, festivals, poetry, songs, folklore and so on. They lived a life that was acceptable to the nature of these five types of land. In modern terminology, they lived an environmentally sound life - they were one with nature.

Thirunelvaely district has all these five different areas !! Yes it has desert areas too !

I was there until I finished my first degree.

I would like to present my old, undivided Thirunelvaely district in this page.

It will take time as I am an amateur.
