| Religious Freedom | ||||||||||||||||
| One of the most sacred ideals the great country of The United States Of America was founded upon includes the promise of religious freedom. This premise was so important to those first leaders, it was not only included, but was the very first line of the first ammendment in the Bill of Rights. It reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." (Bill of Rights, 1791). Through these powerful words, the freedom of every US citizen to practice their own religion was preserved. Regardless of the religion (or lack of it). In the political present, however, certain politicians seem to have forgotten those simple words of wisdom. What about those of us not Christian? Who will represent our religions? The Buddhists, Pagans, Hindus,...so many other religions will be excluded as a result of this legislation! Yes, the Christian faith is the religion of the majority. The premise of the American Democracy is to allow the majority to rule, while keeping the rights of the minorities intact! |
