Character Tips for Werewolf: The Apocolypse
Assign your stats by chracter CONCEPT, not overall 'killit-ness.' If the stats fit your concept, you're good. If not, reassign them until they do.
'killit-ness:'adj. The ability of one to kill, slay, or cut down another person or thing.
The stat assignment restrictions(7/5/3 13/9/5) may seem harsh, but they can be set up in manners that allow you to have an INTERESTING, 3D CHARACTER
Although Werewolf is, in many ways, a fighting game, this does not mean that your character should be an all-out combat death dealer, capable of killing fourteen Black Spiral Dancers in one round. If you can do this, your Storyteller is either high or very stupid.
Make your auspice at least loosely match concept. That way, it adds something of a mystical touch to the auspice system, as it implies that auspice really does affect your personality. However, you may choose to play sort of a 'reluctant Garou' type, in which case your personality may conflict to the highest degree with your auspice.
Do not focus so much on a concept as on a personality. A character without a personality is not a character.
A drab personality is OK, and a boring personality is OK, but a 2D personality is NOT OK. Play your personality to the hilt, and even if you fudge a little (i.e. in a multiple-character story, confusing information one has with information that the other has), it will not matter. All that matters is that the Role-Playing is put back in Role Playing Game.
As it says in the WPG second edition, Personality Archetypes are GUIDES. Do not feel compelled to only use the ones listed. Make your own that fit your personality.
A personality Archetype is a ONE-WORD DESCRIPTION OF YOUR CHARACTER'S PERSONALITY. Again, if nothing fits your personality type, make something up, even if you have a great handle on playing your character, just to humor your Storyteller.
