| June 4th, 2002 WWJ/WXYT management forces union meetings out of building: On Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at 6:00pm, on-air and off-air members of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists at sister stations News WWJ-AM 950 and Sports WXYT-AM 1270 will hold a bargaining unit meeting on the public sidewalk outside the Infinity Broadcasting studios in Southfield. Infinity Broadcasting, through the local management team, informed union members that even though they've been holding AFTRA meetings inside the building for many years, they will no longer be permitted to meet inside the workplace. Bargaining unit members have respectfully requested in a petition signed by a majority of the members that the company reconsider this divisive decision. The company has declined. The union is currently in negotiations with Infinity to incorporate WXYT staffers into the existing WWJ collective bargaining agreement. In January, the WXYT hosts, reporters, producers and board operators voted by an 86% margin to join the existing WWJ bargaining unit. Michiguide.com |
