I purchased the Car in February of 1992. I drove the car that summer and then began the restoration project over the next two winters. The Car was stripped down to bare metal and gutted completely. When the Engine was out, I scraped undercoating off of the engine compartment and had the body man smooth it out. The body work was done to fit the front L bumper and rear Turbo Wing to match the body lines, and car was painted a 1992 Acura NSX red with black accents. Side markers were cracked and were replaced at this time along with the De Tomaso Pantera scripts and new Ghia emblems.
The engine was bored 30 over, crank turned 10 under and all the standard procedures were done in the machine shop. The cam is a Hydraulic Competition Cam with a 553 lift and 292 duration at 50 thousandths tappet. Rods have been shot pinned and resized, pistons are new aluminum with closed chamber heads for a 10.67 compression ratio, 10 qt. oil pan. Runs great on Unleaded Premium (no Pinging). There is an after market Aluminum Manifold, Aluminum Polished Valve Covers, 750 double pump Holly Carb, GTS high performance exhaust system, and an electronic MSD Distributor and Ignition system. A high performance Kevlar clutch and new pilot bearing was also installed. A three pass Aluminum Radiator with Mariah Fan blades and motors were installed to improve on cooling.
The interior is basically stock with new carpet, New De Tomaso Floor mats, new black headliner and stock seats have been reupholstered with a black velour. The steering wheel was replaced with a 14 inch La Carra steering wheel. |
